Description

This Software Engineer III role is based at 10900 NE 4th Street, Bellevue, WA 98004.

You will plan, build, and improve software engineering work that serves customer and business goals, and you will help others agree with the reasoning behind decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Keep your engineering knowledge current and apply it to planning, delivering, and improving software.
  • Learn the business, stakeholder, and technical needs, then review existing software to see how well it meets them.
  • Build and maintain a requirement traceability matrix that links business requirements, functional requirements, designs, and test cases.
  • Help write user stories for components, modules, and simpler requirements.
  • Write compact code for complete components and applications that meets business, technical, and non-functional needs, including low maintenance effort, high availability, and high scalability.
  • Help choose suitable languages, development standards, and tools.
  • Learn the basics of different languages and frameworks on your own initiative when they may matter for future work.
  • Write scripts that automate repetitive and routine work in CI/CD, testing, and other processes.
  • Add telemetry features independently when they are needed.
  • Make sure security policy requirements are applied to components and applications while you code and configure them.
  • Turn customer requirements into test objectives, then identify and write test cases for components and modules.
  • Run test cases to find errors and defects across whole components, using suitable tools for each type of testing.
  • Track and analyze defects in components and modules, and run regression tests after each code change to fix them in every instance.
  • Review defects from earlier engineering work to prevent similar ones from returning.
  • Find and resolve performance and availability bottlenecks in applications.
  • Handle complex maintenance tasks on software applications independently.
  • Monitor application performance by tracking and analyzing relevant metrics.
  • Carry out corrective, adaptive, and perfective maintenance, along with re-engineering work.
  • Analyze application logs, maintenance data, and performance data.
  • Assess software change requests and decide which ones are valid and feasible.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related area.
  • Or a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of those areas plus 2 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
  • Experience designing and building REST API web services in Java.
  • Experience building and maintaining microservice applications with IntelliJ and Spring Boot.
  • Experience using Apache Kafka and connecting it to microservices to extend business logic.
  • Experience building and configuring CI/CD pipelines that build and deploy applications with Jenkins and GitLab.
  • Experience writing scripts and processes that migrate business data with Spring Batch.
  • Experience storing and maintaining business data in SQL databases (Azure SQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (Azure Cosmos DB, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience writing unit tests with JUnit and Mockito to protect code quality.
  • Experience using Git for source control and change tracking.
  • Experience with the build automation tools Maven and Gradle for builds and dependency management.
  • Experience applying design patterns such as Singleton, Factory, and DAO to structure code well.
  • Experience creating and deploying Docker containers with Kubernetes on cloud platforms.
  • Experience using monitoring tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, and the Elastic Search stack to collect crash analytics and logs.
  • Experience working with product and UX design teams in Figma to understand feature specs and how features fit OKRs and success metrics.
  • Experience joining UX mock sessions with product teams before implementation begins.
  • Experience taking part in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming, to align technical work with product priorities.
  • Experience coordinating with project leads to turn high-level feature requirements into concrete engineering tasks and keep sprints on schedule.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence to track deliverables, record technical decisions, and share status updates with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience of any length with these skills is accepted.
