Software Development Engineer (New Grad / Entry Level)

Description

The company builds a cloud data platform defined in software, with a distributed storage operating system written in C and Rust. It holds exabytes of data across data centers, edge sites and public clouds, serving uses from hospital imaging archives to studio render farms, where 99% accuracy falls short.

You will work under experienced senior engineers on the storage engine and the services that help customers store, manage and protect their data.

The core includes a fault-tolerant block layer that erasure-codes and distributes data beneath the file system, plus a transactional file system that updates aggregates as data changes, so queries across billions of files return in real time instead of walking a tree. The same machinery runs quotas, capacity trends, snapshot policy, several access protocols, replication and backup, all in userspace.

The work is a distributed operating system problem covering scheduling, memory hierarchy, protection and concurrency. The company is AI-forward: you will use agents to help write code and build the judgment to confirm each design decision is correct, since nothing ships unless it is right.

Responsibilities

• Work with team members on design, code reviews and pair programming to ship high-quality software.
• Help shape the architecture and design of new and updated features alongside team members and area leads.
• Contribute to full feature development and testing in C, Rust and Python.
• Own the definition and build of customer-facing features and internal system improvements.
• Debug, troubleshoot and fix test failures and complex product or service issues in production environments.

Requirements

• Recently graduated, or graduating within the next 9 months, with a degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Write code that is well factored, easy to maintain and well tested.
• Solid grasp of algorithms and data structures, plus academic or project experience in distributed systems, databases, concurrent programming or operating systems.
• Working knowledge of C, C++, Rust, Java or Go, shown through classes, internships or personal projects.
• Willingness to collaborate on hard problems with a team and learn quickly on the job.

Conditions

Hybrid role based at the downtown Seattle headquarters, targeting 3 days a week in the office.

Must be authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.

Base salary range of USD $110,000 to $140,000 per year, plus pre-IPO stock options and benefits. Individual pay depends on role level, relevant experience and skill set.
