Senior Software Engineer

Description

The company builds AI systems for the Department of War and has 125 deployments across every branch and combatant command, spanning its core platform and five products.

When major combat operations with Iran began, the team shipped a new product supporting 24/7 operations for more than 9,000 users within three months.

The team works forward with the operators who own each mission, including engineers, product staff and the CTO visiting units in Ukraine, and embeds with operational units on great power competition with China, combat operations with Iran and counter-narcotics missions.

This role is on the Decision Advantage product, a platform that gives defense and intelligence operators a view of the information environment so they can spot and counter adversary influence operations and information warfare. You will build the applications analysts and warfighters use every day, including tools for distilling, analysing and visualising information so they can assess it quickly. You will work with designers, engineers, subject matter experts and operators to turn complex intelligence needs into clear, mission-ready workflows.

You will be part of a small cross-functional team delivering these capabilities to defense customers facing near-peer competitors. You will touch every layer: data extraction and ingestion, backend storage, indexing and APIs, frontend, and AI analysis agents. The platform already has a solid base, and there is a lot of room to have an impact as it grows.

This role is also open to staff-level candidates.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship a data collection and search platform in TypeScript, React, Tailwind and Node.js.
• Work with customers, mission owners, designers and engineers to learn how users work and build solutions that are far better than what exists today.
• Build and maintain search and agentic AI systems that run over large volumes of tabular and graph-shaped data.
• Help set the direction of the product.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong skills in TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres and AWS.
• A focus on customers and good product instincts. You think in terms of workflows and the end-user experience, not only code.
• An active security clearance, or the ability to obtain one, and willingness to travel to visit users, gather feedback and debug problems.
• Prior experience building AI-native products.
• Prior experience in a user-facing product role.
