Senior Software Engineer (f/m/d) Managed NFS

Description

The company is a large European hosting provider that builds cloud infrastructure, including sovereign cloud architectures, GPU clusters and AI automation tools, for small and medium-sized businesses and large enterprises.

The team works in agile fashion, with open structures.

IONOS Cloud sells NFS as a managed service. You will help build and run it. The service is highly available and redundant, so customer data remains reachable when a component fails. It runs on Kubernetes and is mostly written in Go.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the NFS product for IONOS Cloud.
• Create and extend Kubernetes Operators that handle the product's lifecycle.
• Design and implement features that keep the service available and redundant, including failover.
• Strengthen the product's reliability and replication.
• Investigate and fix complicated problems in a distributed storage setup that must stay highly available.
• Move away from legacy components in steps, keeping existing customers unaffected.

Requirements

• Expert Go skills and several years of professional development work.
• Experience writing Kubernetes Operators.
• Solid understanding of NFS and SMB/CIFS, plus experience with ZFS and DRBD.
• Experience building highly available, redundant systems, covering replication, failover and distributed-systems basics such as idempotency, retries, consistency and failure handling.
• Deep Linux knowledge, including the kernel, and experience with LinuxKit and VMs (libvirt, QEMU, cloud-init).
• Fluent with Git, Docker, shell and CI/CD, including GitOps workflows such as ArgoCD.
• Experience using observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana to monitor availability and debug issues.
• You use AI coding assistants, such as Claude, every day in your development work.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a structured, self-directed approach within a team.
• You must be willing to undergo a security clearance (SÜ-2).
