Description

The digital technologies unit of the company builds AI, computer vision and augmented reality tools for use in the operating room, with the goal of making surgery safer worldwide.

The product is a video management and data analytics platform for hospitals, which includes the DS1 Computer, the company's first operating room device. It lets surgeons, operating room staff and trainees securely view recordings of their procedures soon after surgery.

This senior role covers the reliability, safety and performance of embedded and connected hardware used in the operating room. You will build automated tests for device software, firmware integrations and hardware-software interaction. The role does not cover web or mobile applications.

You will work with engineering teams to build quality into every stage of development, use modern automation frameworks, and push testing practices forward. Strong automation skills and a drive to improve product quality through software are central to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain scalable, reusable automated test frameworks and tools for device software.
  • Work with software engineers to define test scenarios and testable architectures, and build quality into the code.
  • Create and run test automation strategies for embedded, edge and device-integrated systems, including Android AOSP, Linux-based edge devices and IoT gateways. This covers device drivers, connectivity modules and firmware updates.
  • Review requirements and write full test plans and protocols covering service APIs (REST, IPC), WebUI and over-the-air updates.
  • Add automated quality gates to continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, standards and best practices for testing, automation and quality engineering.
  • Work with hardware, firmware and systems engineers to check device performance, connectivity and stability under real operating conditions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or an equivalent international degree.
  • Experience in software automation and test development.
  • Strong skill in writing test automation code in Python, Java or a similar language.
  • Hands-on use of manual test management tools and automation frameworks such as Selenium, Appium or Espresso.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
  • Knowledge of device operating systems, Android and Linux.
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture (SoA) and APIs, including REST and IPC.
  • Hands-on experience testing embedded or connected hardware, ideally edge computing or IoT systems.
  • A solid grasp of hardware-software interaction, reading debug logs and analysing system-level behaviour.
  • Familiarity with firmware validation, board bring-up testing or similar work.
  • Experience with web-based interfaces, Internet-connected devices and OTA updates.
  • A hands-on, technical approach and a strong commitment to product quality.
  • A record of designing and building automated solutions, not only running manual tests.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and lead initiatives.
  • Preferred: experience with embedded device software development, hardware-in-the-loop testing, device connectivity (USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), and video streaming or imaging devices.
  • Preferred: familiarity with the IEC 62304 medical device standard and safety-critical testing.

You must be able to commute frequently to the London office, 3 to 4 days per week on site.

The role is based in the United Kingdom, with a salary range of 76,800.00 GBP to 115,200.00 GBP. The final salary is set using objective, job-related criteria, including relevant experience, skills and qualifications, under the company's compensation framework.

The job description describes the general nature and level of the work. It is not a complete list of every duty or skill for the role.

Apply only through official company channels. The company will never ask for payment or sensitive personal details such as bank or social security information in the early stages of hiring. Report any doubtful contact to the HR team.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary and a flexible benefits package.
