Senior Research Scientist, Security and Privacy

Description

The team is building security and privacy into AI systems so they can be trusted, with strong protection that can be verified and no major loss in performance or energy efficiency. Data access and use in AI, and AI use in critical settings, are increasingly held back by security, privacy and safety concerns, so every layer of the stack must be designed and tuned together.

The company pioneered programmable GPUs and the CUDA language, leads in accelerated computing and AI systems, and has ambitious plans for future systems.

The ideal candidate has a proven record of research excellence and a broad view of security and privacy across hardware and software, plus depth in at least one layer such as computer architecture, programming languages, software systems, applied cryptography or AI/ML algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Find and analyse likely vulnerabilities and risks in future AI systems and AI-based systems.
• Design new hardware, software and algorithms that deliver strong, verifiable security, privacy and safety guarantees for trustworthy AI.
• Work with teams across software, hardware, research and product.
• Publish original research and present at conferences and events.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in CE, CS or EE, or equivalent experience, with a strong background in computer architecture, operating systems, programming languages or compilers, applied cryptography, or AI/ML.
• At least 4 years of relevant research or work experience.
• Deep expertise in at least one security area, such as applied cryptography, programming languages, software systems, AI/ML algorithms or computer architecture, and the ability to become the go-to expert for a team with varied backgrounds.
• Hands-on experience with experimental research and development.
• Strong coding skills in C, C++, Python and/or other scripting languages.
• Strong communication skills. Being a creative, dynamic presenter is a major advantage.
• A strong record of publications, patents and research collaborations is a major advantage.

Conditions

Base salary depends on location, experience and other objective, job-related factors. The expected base salary is 192,000 USD to 304,750 USD for Level 4, and 224,000 USD to 356,500 USD for Level 5.
