Description

The company is a global financial markets infrastructure and data business, headquartered in the United Kingdom, with operations in 70 countries across EMEA, North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific.

It employs 25,000 people worldwide, more than half of them in Asia Pacific, and has supported financial stability and growth for more than 300 years. Its workforce spans 65 countries.

The company's ticker symbol matches its abbreviated name. It is committed to sustainability and helps customers meet their own sustainability goals.

The Engineered Product Solutions group in the FICC Engineering team builds and runs platforms for ideating, back testing, constructing and producing custom, thematic and bespoke index and benchmark products across fixed income, interest rates, currencies and commodities.

This is a Manager-level senior Python engineer role covering development, enhancements and support for these platforms, focused on index and benchmark portfolio construction, index analytics, systematic strategies and quantitative tooling.

The company values learning and broadening skills over simply climbing a career ladder.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain platforms and tools for custom, thematic and bespoke FICC index and benchmark products, with emphasis on engineered products and rates.
  • Design and deliver scalable, reliable and maintainable software using current engineering methods.
  • Work with product, research and index colleagues to turn business needs into technical solutions.
  • Find and fix complex production, data and application problems through structured root-cause analysis.
  • Drive modernisation work, including moving to the cloud and improving development and deployment processes.
  • Raise software quality, automation and operational efficiency through testing, code review and CI/CD practice.
  • Work across a varied stack that includes Python, Linux, cloud technologies and legacy applications.
  • Own projects end to end, from design and implementation through to production support.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on software development experience, typically 7+ years, ideally in financial services or data-heavy settings.
  • Strong Python skills and experience working on Linux, with a solid grounding in software engineering principles.
  • Solid fundamentals in system design, testing, code quality and performance optimisation.
  • Proven ability to investigate and solve hard technical problems on your own.
  • Experience building and supporting production systems that the business depends on.
  • Experience with source control and CI/CD tools such as Git and GitLab.
  • Strong SQL and data processing skills.
  • Quick to pick up new technologies, business domains and data models.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability, with the drive to work independently.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Success depends on learning new technologies and business concepts yourself, solving tough problems with little supervision and communicating well with colleagues.
  • Desirable: experience in financial services, market data, index management, quantitative research or investment management.
  • Desirable: knowledge of cloud technologies and cloud-native application architecture.
  • Desirable: a track record of building scalable data platforms, analytics tools or workflow automation.
  • Desirable: exposure to real-time or near real-time systems, event-driven architectures or low-latency data processing.
  • Desirable: familiarity with legacy technologies such as Perl, Shell scripting, Java or C/C++.
  • Desirable: understanding of quantitative analytics and financial instruments.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunities employer that does not discriminate on protected grounds, and can reasonably accommodate religious practices and mental health or physical disability needs as the law requires.

Benefits

  • Tailored benefits and support, including healthcare, retirement planning, wellbeing initiatives and paid volunteering days.
  • Colleagues can get involved in fundraising and volunteering for the company's charitable foundation, which gives grants to community groups that help people access economic opportunities and build financial independence.
