Description

The company makes it easier for engineering teams to ship fast, reliable products and services on top of data, including web, mobile, and agent-driven experiences.

It supports some of the largest GraphQL APIs in the world, with customers such as Walmart, Expedia, Peloton, DoorDash, and The New York Times.

Agents are becoming a major consumer of APIs. They need a graph they can traverse and controls over what they can reach, and that is the company's next build. Design will determine whether it is usable.

Designers are assigned to the highest-leverage problems, with priorities set each quarter. Current areas are developer onboarding, core product interfaces, the design system, and emerging agentic products.

You will work with the Head of Design. You own well-scoped problem areas from start to finish: learning about the users and the system behind them, shaping a v1 with engineering, and shipping polished, usable experiences. You bring your own point of view and help raise the quality bar across the team.

About the company: the team helps other teams build, run, and scale the graphs behind modern applications, with a platform that connects clients, services, and AI-powered experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own design for defined workflows in the developer tools, from discovery to shipped experience.
  • Work closely with engineers and PMs on what gets built, and take a clear position on scope and trade-offs.
  • Scope v1s that deliver value fast, then iterate using usage data and feedback.
  • Design the details that make technical products trustworthy, including states, edge cases, errors, and permissions.
  • Build reusable patterns and components for the design system, and help move product surfaces onto it.
  • Use AI tools to prototype and test ideas quickly, and run lightweight usability tests when a wrong call would be costly.
  • Connect your work to outcomes such as task completion, developer activation, and fewer support tickets caused by confusing flows.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience designing software, with a focus on product or UX design.
  • A portfolio of shipped work.
  • Experience designing complex products, ideally for technical users in areas such as developer tools, infrastructure, data, security, identity, or APIs.
  • A record of owning features or workflows end to end, from discovery through launch.
  • Strong visual design, interaction design, and craft skills.
  • Comfort working through ambiguity within a defined problem area.
  • Preferred: experience shipping developer-focused experiences, API tooling, or agent experiences.
  • Preferred: experience contributing to a design system, and judgment about when to work outside it.
  • Preferred: use of AI tools to prototype and explore ideas faster.
  • Preferred: an engineering background, or comfort working in code.
  • Preferred: curiosity about developer tools and AI agents.
  • Preferred: equally strong at mapping a full user journey and refining interaction details.
  • Preferred: based in or near the San Francisco Bay Area.
