Description

The company is the New York City Housing Authority, the largest public housing authority in North America. It offers safe, affordable housing to low- and moderate-income New Yorkers across all five boroughs.

The authority houses 1 in 17 New Yorkers, serving over 500,000 authorized residents through public housing, PACT programs and Section 8. It manages nearly 200,000 apartments in over 2,400 buildings across 335 conventional public housing and PACT developments. It also links residents to economic opportunity, youth, senior and social service programs run by internal and external partners.

The team is looking for a Senior Manager to lead the Security Operations Center (SOC) and expand its capabilities. The role goes beyond routine upkeep. The manager will strengthen detection and response, add automation for speed and consistency, and prepare for threats shaped by artificial intelligence, both from AI-enabled attacks and from using AI in security operations.

The manager takes ownership of every security incident, from detection to resolution. This includes assessing each event, directing the response and giving senior leadership clear, timely updates. The role reports directly to the Chief Information Security Officer and leads a team of three security analysts. Wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment is expected.

Posting code 95622, IT Security Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop SOC analysts, assign work according to skills and experience, set goals and review performance.
  • Take part in hiring as the team grows.
  • Manage daily SOC work, including monitoring, alert triage, investigation and escalation, and lead the response to every security incident from detection through recovery.
  • Assess current SOC capabilities and maintain a roadmap to improve them, tracking progress with metrics such as mean time to detect and mean time to respond.
  • Oversee the building and tuning of detection rules, and guide proactive threat hunting based on threat intelligence.
  • Keep detections current as attacker techniques evolve, including AI-enabled threats.
  • Automate triage, enrichment and response actions to improve speed and consistency.
  • Give senior leadership clear, timely incident updates and support required regulatory and oversight reporting.
  • Maintain incident response playbooks and procedures, run tabletop exercises and lead post-incident reviews to find root causes and prevent repeats.
  • Work with IT infrastructure, application and service desk teams to investigate and fix security events and make sure monitoring is built into new systems.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in projects and policies relevant to the position.
  • Or education and/or experience equivalent to the above.

Conditions

Lead a team of three security analysts and report directly to the Chief Information Security Officer.
