Senior Java Applications Developer

Description

The team runs the company's central repository and distribution platform for corporate action events. It gathers announcements and notifications from many vendors and serves several business areas.

The platform sits within the master reference data function and the wider enterprise data organization. You will help modernize and manage the full lifecycle of these events across the company.

Some of the work touches commercial and financial decisions that shape vendor strategy at global scale.

This is a full-time role in the Applications Development family within Technology.

Responsibilities

• Build complex software with Java, J2EE, Spring Boot and RESTful web services.
• Design, build and maintain sound microservices that follow good architecture practice.
• Use core Java, including multithreading and the Collections framework, in day-to-day work.
• Apply the Spring Framework across application code.
• Write and tune SQL queries.
• Follow solid engineering habits, OOP principles and design patterns.
• Help improve the CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage source code in Git or Bitbucket.
• Keep code clean and measure its quality with Sonar.
• Write unit, integration and functional tests that cover the solution.
• Work through difficult technical problems efficiently.
• Work alongside other application developers to raise standards and improve how the team works together.

Requirements

• Experience building and delivering complex software solutions.
• Strong working knowledge of Java, J2EE, Spring Boot and RESTful services using XML and JSON.
• Proven experience with microservices architecture.
• Hands-on experience with core Java, multithreading, the Collections framework and Spring.
• Solid grasp of engineering best practice, OOP, design patterns and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience using Git for source control.
• Understanding of clean code and of quality measures from tools such as Sonar.
• Proven ability to write unit, integration and functional tests.
• A solution-minded approach: you analyse complex problems, plan strategic fixes and lead their implementation.
• Clear written and spoken communication.
• Advantage: experience with AI tools such as Devin and Co Pilot.
• Advantage: understanding of cloud-native development principles.
• Advantage: experience with container orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes and OpenShift.
• Advantage: proficiency in Jira for task tracking, backlog management and sprint cycles.

Conditions

Hybrid working: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

Full-time contract.
