Description

The company is a venture-backed defence technology firm that builds intelligent autonomous systems for aircraft, with the aim of keeping service members and civilians safe through AI and autonomy.

The team is Hivemind Solutions. It designs, builds and deploys real-world autonomous capabilities for uncrewed systems, and the work is hands-on, combining software development with robotics, perception and path planning.

The role is for a senior engineer on the autonomy team, which is building AI pilots to solve practical problems. Strong C++ skills and a real interest in robotics and autonomy are the core of the fit.

Responsibilities

  • Work at the crossover of artificial intelligence, task and motion planning, and controls.
  • Design and implement autonomous behaviours for uncrewed aircraft.
  • Build sensor fusion solutions that handle real sensor data.
  • Develop and test autonomy systems in high-fidelity software and hardware-in-the-loop simulations.
  • Bring the company's autonomy products together with third-party aircraft and systems.
  • Work with the AI, robotics and systems engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Shape architecture, code quality, design reviews and best practices.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in computer science, mechatronics, software engineering, aerospace, robotics or a related field.
  • Have significant professional experience in robotics, autonomy, perception or aerospace systems.
  • Have strong experience in modern C++.
  • Have significant experience building and delivering reliable software systems, ideally in fast-moving environments.
  • Preferred: prior work with uncrewed systems, especially in the air domain.
  • Preferred: experience in the defence industry.
  • Preferred: significant experience in one or more of state estimation, real-time systems, guidance, navigation and control, or path planning.

Conditions

Equal opportunity applies; the company welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
