Description

Senior role for an observability engineer or subject matter expert working in Dynatrace. You will strengthen monitoring and application performance across complex, distributed environments.

You will design and tune monitoring that covers applications, infrastructure, databases, APIs and cloud services, so teams spot slow services and resolve incidents before they hurt the business.

You will work alongside development, infrastructure, operations and security staff to build a proactive, data-driven approach to service management.

The company provides IT consulting, staffing and software services to North American clients. It has been headquartered in Harrison, New Jersey since 1996 and serves systems integration, banking and finance, telecoms, pharma and life sciences, energy, healthcare, technology, transport and government agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure and tune enterprise observability with Dynatrace, including OneAgent, ActiveGate, Smartscape and related components.
  • Set up application performance monitoring, distributed tracing, automatic dependency discovery and infrastructure monitoring across apps, databases, APIs and integrations.
  • Monitor Windows and Linux servers, virtualized environments, cloud infrastructure and supporting services for bottlenecks, latency, failures and resource strain.
  • Use Davis AI and analytics to find root causes, investigate anomalies, troubleshoot complex incidents and judge impact across distributed systems.
  • Configure business transaction monitoring, Real User Monitoring and Synthetic Monitoring to track key workflows, availability and user experience.
  • Build and maintain dashboards, alert rules, anomaly detection policies and reports tied to SLIs and SLOs.
  • Query telemetry with DQL and platform analytics to correlate events and improve monitoring.
  • Set performance baselines and measure the effect of releases, infrastructure changes, upgrades and configuration changes.
  • Maintain supported monitoring integrations for SaaS platforms, external APIs and third-party services.
  • Review current monitoring and recommend changes to coverage, alert accuracy, scalability and efficiency.
  • Work with developers, infrastructure engineers, operations and security teams to define monitoring requirements and solve technical issues.
  • Support incident response by linking application, infrastructure and service data to speed up diagnosis.
  • Write architecture diagrams, technical documentation, monitoring standards and operational runbooks.
  • Lead knowledge transfer and coaching for engineering and operations teams on observability practice.
  • Contribute to improvements in automation, DevOps, SRE and change impact analysis.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years in enterprise monitoring, application performance management or observability engineering.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on work deploying, configuring, administering and optimizing Dynatrace in enterprise environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Dynatrace architecture and administration, including OneAgent, ActiveGate, Smartscape and Davis AI.
  • Proven record with end-to-end monitoring, distributed tracing, automated service dependency mapping and cross-layer performance troubleshooting.
  • Solid grasp of application architectures, APIs, databases, distributed systems, Windows and Linux infrastructure and enterprise technology.
  • Hands-on experience building Dynatrace dashboards, setting alerts and anomaly detection, analyzing performance metrics and writing DQL.
  • Familiarity with Real User Monitoring, Synthetic Monitoring, business transaction monitoring and service-level observability practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to set performance baselines, configure monitoring policies, correlate telemetry and improve incident detection and resolution.
  • Experience reviewing monitoring coverage and turning findings into practical recommendations for reliability, scalability and performance.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead complex investigations independently.
  • Clear written and spoken English, able to explain technical issues, produce thorough documentation and work professionally with varied technical teams.
  • Able to work remotely, coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders and attend onsite activities when required.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Dynatrace Grail, OpenTelemetry, cloud environments such as AWS or Microsoft Azure, and ITSM integrations such as ServiceNow, Jira or PagerDuty.
  • Advantage: automation and scripting with Python, PowerShell or REST APIs.
  • Desirable: understanding of DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, incident management and change impact analysis.
  • Preferred: bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Preferred: Dynatrace Professional certification or equivalent demonstrated technical expertise.
