Description

The company is a global information and analytics business serving researchers and healthcare professionals. The role sits in a team that builds a stable education product: electronic health records that teach students digital charting and clinical documentation. The team works on trust, respect, collaboration, agility and quality.

The job is a senior data scientist role, hybrid between London and Oxford. You would design and ship advanced AI systems, using machine learning, NLP and generative AI, that help researchers and professionals find and use knowledge at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and assess AI, ML, NLP and generative AI systems for scientific search and knowledge discovery.
  • Create LLM workflows and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems for search, summaries, question answering and answers grounded in evidence.
  • Build retrieval, ranking, recommendation and decision-support features using current orchestration frameworks and AI methods.
  • Bring scientific metadata, ontologies, taxonomies and other knowledge assets into scalable AI pipelines.
  • Set up strong evaluation, experiment and monitoring processes that keep quality, trust, performance and reliability high.
  • Write production-quality Python and work with engineers to roll out solutions at scale.
  • Lead technically and mentor colleagues to sustain strong delivery and steady improvement.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in data science, AI, machine learning, NLP, information retrieval or another quantitative field.
  • Solid record building AI/ML, NLP, generative AI and retrieval systems in applied or product settings.
  • Deep working knowledge of LLMs, covering fine-tuning, prompt design, grounding methods and responsible AI.
  • Strong Python and sound machine learning fundamentals.
  • Experience with large text or content-heavy datasets and current AI/ML frameworks.
  • Experience with RAG, semantic, vector or hybrid search, and with evaluating experiments by their effect on users.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern software engineering practice.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and mentoring skills.

Conditions

Hybrid working across London and Oxford.

Flexible hours: you can shift when you work during the day to fit your commitments and work when you are most productive.

Equal opportunity commitment: applicants with disabilities or other needs can ask for accommodation during the hiring process.

Benefits

  • Support for work-life balance, including wellbeing programmes, shared parental leave, study assistance and sabbaticals.
  • Benefits that vary by country, available through the company's benefits page for your location.
