Description

The company runs a branch performance platform for financial institutions, combining appointment booking, in-branch queuing, video banking and branch workforce management.

The AI-based, enterprise-grade product turns customer interaction and operating data into insights across several lines of business, and more than 200 banks and credit unions use it.

This 12-month contract is for the main data engineer on the Data Enablement team, working alongside analytics engineers, product and other enablement teams.

The team is moving its whole data estate from legacy Postgres and Redshift environments to a Databricks Lakehouse, using Databricks, dbt and Looker (LookML).

Work is agile and iterative rather than strict Scrum, in a blameless culture focused on continuous improvement.

The team is small enough to make a real impact and large enough to keep growing.

Responsibilities

  • Build the pipelines behind the workforce forecasting and staffing product.
  • Finish moving the analytics platform onto Databricks.
  • Build and run production pipelines in Databricks (Lakeflow, Jobs, dbt), from customer file ingestion to tables ready for models and reporting.
  • Lead the next migration phases: landing source tables, moving product analytics onto the lakehouse and retiring old warehouses.
  • Own replication and ingestion from production databases across environments using AWS DMS, Lakeflow Connect or Fivetran, with data residency and PII handling built in.
  • Set data contracts with internal teams and external ML partners so schema changes do not break downstream work.
  • Give product teams effort estimates and trade-offs, and challenge scope when needed.
  • Monitor pipeline health, data quality and Databricks cost.
  • Take part in the Data on-call rotation, working with the team on its own schedule.
  • Write runbooks, lineage and design decisions so the team can run the work without you if needed.
  • Explore AI and apply it to customer and business problems across Engineering.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data engineering, with 2+ years running Databricks in production (Delta, Jobs, DLT/Lakeflow, Unity Catalog).
  • Strong Python, PostgreSQL, Redshift and CDC skills (e.g. AWS DMS).
  • Experience replicating from operational databases via CDC or events, and ingesting messy files.
  • Involvement in at least one warehouse or lakehouse migration.
  • Comfortable with AWS data services.
  • Experience handling PII or regulated data. A financial services background is ideal.
  • Curiosity about new technology, especially AI and LLMs, and a drive to learn and apply it.
  • Hands-on use of AI coding agents (Claude Code or similar) for pipelines, dbt, debugging or troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Terraform, DAB) to manage data infrastructure.
  • Experience with LookML or embedded Looker.
  • Experience managing pipelines that feed forecasting or ML models.
  • Works well with high autonomy and directs effort to the highest priority work with the team.
  • Takes initiative, brings new ideas and leads projects.
  • Unique data experience the team can learn from.
