Senior Backend Software Engineer — Python & Java

Description

The company builds a cloud-native lending platform used by wealth managers, private banks and financial institutions worldwide.

You will join the Securities-Based Lending (SBL) engineering team in Dublin, an Agile group that develops and improves the platform.

The work spans the full software lifecycle, delivering scalable, secure and resilient REST APIs, backend services and cloud infrastructure, mainly in Python and Java.

The team's core stack includes Python, FastAPI, Java 17+, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Nomad, Angular, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Git, GitHub, Maven, Gradle and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-quality backend services for the SBL platform in Python, FastAPI, Java and Spring Boot.
• Design, build and evolve scalable, API-first services, REST APIs and microservices.
• Build secure, resilient cloud-native services on AWS using DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
• Take part in architecture and design reviews covering backend services, APIs and data design.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
• Review peers' code and help raise engineering standards, quality and performance.
• Build and maintain automated tests for services and REST APIs, and help strengthen CI/CD pipelines.
• Investigate production issues and carry out root cause analysis.
• Work with Product Managers, QA Engineers, Scrum Masters and UX partners, joining sprint planning, estimation, refinement and retrospectives.
• Mentor junior engineers and support their growth.

Requirements

• 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience, with strong commercial work in Python and FastAPI.
• Commercial experience building enterprise applications in Java and Spring Boot, including RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or another enterprise relational database.
• Experience using Git.
• Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS with services such as ECS, Lambda, EC2, S3, IAM and CloudWatch.
• Experience writing and maintaining automated unit, integration and API tests within CI/CD environments.
• Experience working in Agile Scrum teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English.
• Nice to have: Flask, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Nomad, Helm, Clojure, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, OpenAPI, OAuth2 / JWT, event-driven architecture, distributed systems, React or Angular, JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS3.
• Nice to have: experience in financial services, securities-based lending or banking platforms.

Conditions

Based in Dublin, on a hybrid model, with in-person meetings as needed.
