Senior Backend Engineer, Cloud Platform

Description

The company is building a converged AI workspace that brings together tasks, docs, chat, calendar and enterprise search, with context-driven AI across all of it. It is AI-native, and every team member is expected to use AI daily. AI fluency is assessed as part of hiring.

Responsibilities

• The Cloud Platform team designs and runs AWS infrastructure that is scalable, secure and cost-efficient, with most of the focus on Amazon EKS. The aim is that product work is never held up by platform limits. As a Senior Software Engineer, you use AI to build and operate the compute, networking and infrastructure-as-code base that serves millions of users.
• Build and grow AWS infrastructure and reusable platform components that make development easier, focusing on Amazon EKS, networking and self-hosted services.
• Spot improvement opportunities and emerging risks, and propose new ways to raise reliability, scalability and cost efficiency before they block the team.
• Automate shard buildouts, and put Terraform guardrails and hardened ingress in place to cut incidents.
• Scale systems across more shards and regions while meeting compliance attestations such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001, disaster recovery needs and enterprise security requirements.
• Work with SRE, Security, product, AI and enterprise teams to connect infrastructure with product engineering.
• Take responsibility for the reliability of Cloud Platform: on-call, incident response, postmortems, runbooks and prevention work.
• Use AI tools every day for development, testing, IaC, operations and investigations, and help the team get more out of AI.

Requirements

• You have 6+ years building and running large distributed systems, with a focus on infrastructure and cloud, particularly compute.
• You have hands-on experience running and debugging Kubernetes in production, including control plane, node and networking faults, ideally Amazon EKS at fleet scale.
• You have strong AWS experience with EKS, EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, VPC networking, IAM, S3 and KMS. Bedrock is a plus.
• You have run multi-account AWS setups with 20+ accounts, including Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, VPC routing, DNS and load balancing.
• You have written infrastructure as code with Terraform at scale. CDK experience is a plus.
• You write fluently in at least one of Go, Python or TypeScript/Node.js, with TypeScript/Node.js preferred.
• You have worked with hybrid monolith and microservices architectures.
• You have operated data stores at scale, such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3 and Redis/Valkey.
• You have a track record of improving infrastructure reliability and efficiency and adding security guardrails.
• You debug production problems across application and infrastructure boundaries, write clearly and work well across functions.
• You use AI daily and can give concrete examples of how it sped up your engineering work.
