Description

The company makes medical technology with a mission to ease pain, restore health and extend life, and serves patients in more than 150 countries.

The Digital Technologies team builds new products that bring connectivity, real-time guidance and decision support into the operating room.

The team is developing compact, high-performance embedded systems for edge computing and connectivity, and uses the latest computer vision to give the fullest possible view of surgery across a connected ecosystem.

This is a senior role focused on algorithm optimization. You will design, build and tune machine learning models to run with low latency on edge and cloud devices, through quick iterative prototyping.

You will work as the optimization specialist alongside machine learning engineers, platform engineers, embedded software engineers and research experts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, benchmark and optimize deep learning models for computer vision and video understanding.
  • Refine existing model architectures and inference pipelines to cut latency and raise throughput while keeping or improving accuracy on target platforms.
  • Build and put into production end-to-end video pipelines for surgical video analysis, on cloud, edge or both.
  • Work on temporal reasoning, motion understanding and analysis across multiple video frames.
  • Write clean, well-documented, maintainable code.
  • Present results and technical findings at regular team meetings.
  • Keep up with progress in computer vision, video learning and model optimization, and propose new ideas.

Requirements

  • A Master's or PhD in computer science, mathematics, computer vision, machine learning or a closely related field.
  • Solid hands-on experience designing, training and evaluating PyTorch deep learning models for computer vision.
  • Experience with video machine learning tasks such as classification, action recognition, tracking, temporal modeling or multi-frame reasoning.
  • Deep understanding of optimization methods such as pruning, quantization, sparsity, knowledge distillation or architecture-level efficiency gains.
  • Strong working knowledge of AI optimization tools such as TensorRT.
  • Strong Python skills, with experience in libraries such as NumPy, scikit-learn and OpenCV.
  • Skill at finding performance bottlenecks and optimizing across the model, software and hardware layers.
  • Nice to have: experience with AWS cloud services and containerized deployment using Docker, EKS and ECS.
  • Nice to have: experience visualizing data to evaluate models, analyze performance and communicate results.
  • Nice to have: strong communication skills and the ability to work well with engineers, clinicians, business stakeholders and other cross-functional partners.
  • Nice to have: experience with video processing or other performance-sensitive, real-time or high-performance applications.
  • Nice to have: experience in medical imaging, surgical video or other safety- or quality-critical AI work.
  • Nice to have: a record of scientific publications, patents or conference contributions in computer vision, machine learning, video understanding or related fields.
