Description

About Warp

At Warp Sciences, our mission is to help the world discover new medicines faster—and build the capacity to do it here in America. We bring AI, robotics, and life sciences together in automated labs that design, run, and learn from experiments, with each experiment making the next one better. We’re not developing drugs of our own. We’re building the infrastructure for the people who do.

We’re looking for an Security & IT Engineer to own how technology works inside Warp and continually make it better. Your users are the scientists, engineers, and operators building the company. You’ll keep the systems, technologies, and people safe and secure. You’ll ensure they have reliable equipment, secure access, and excellent tools—and build the integrations, automations, and AI workflows that help them accomplish more.

This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role with responsibility for defining and operating the function. You’ll move comfortably between troubleshooting equipment, designing a network, deploying an AI tool, responding to a security issue, and helping a colleague get unstuck. You’ll manage contractors and specialist partners while remaining accountable for the outcome.

The right person gets real satisfaction from making other people more effective. You notice recurring friction, fix the immediate problem, and improve the underlying system so the problem is less likely to happen again.

Responsibilities

  • Own the employee technology lifecycle, including computer and peripheral selection, purchasing, provisioning, inventory, support, maintenance, and retirement.
  • Deliver an excellent onboarding and offboarding experience. Coordinate equipment, accounts, permissions, badges, orientation, access removal, and asset recovery so employees are productive and secure from their first day through their last.
  • Build and operate identity, application access, endpoints, wired and wireless networks, switches, firewalls, and secure remote access. Segment employee, guest, robotics, and laboratory systems according to their actual risk and connectivity needs.
  • Own workplace technology, including meeting-room AV, displays, physical-access systems, badges, and security-camera administration, working with office operations and building providers where appropriate.
  • Deploy AI technology across Warp. Own tool evaluation, permissions, data handling, rollout, training, adoption, ongoing support, and measurement of whether the tools meaningfully improve how people work.
  • Use AI, APIs, automation, and code to build integrations, self-service workflows, and practical internal applications. Test and debug what you deploy—including AI-generated code—and keep it versioned, observable, maintainable, and recoverable.
  • Own the IT environment supporting laboratory computers, connected instruments, and robotics systems. Partner with scientific and technical owners on connectivity, procurement, telemetry, software dependencies, vendor access, network boundaries, and changes that could affect experiments or data.
  • Implement and operate security controls across identity, endpoints, device configuration, patching, network separation, logging, access, and recovery. Coordinate incident response and bring in specialists when deeper expertise is needed.
  • Drive Warp’s SOC 2 (type 1 / type 2) work from scoping and planning through control implementation, evidence collection, examination, remediation, and ongoing maintenance. Support customer security reviews and keep assurance work integrated into normal operations.
  • Select and manage vendors and contractors. Define scope, budgets, deliverables, and deadlines; evaluate the work; address missed commitments; and secure documentation, administrative access, support arrangements, and effective handoff.
  • Establish clear documentation, recovery paths, escalation procedures, and backup coverage. Some incidents and planned maintenance will require after-hours work as the function develops.

Requirements

  • We care much more about what you’ve built, operated, and improved than your title or number of years of experience.
  • Broad, hands-on ownership of an internal technology environment spanning employee devices, identity, SaaS applications, networks, workplace systems, and support.
  • AI-native working habits. You use AI substantively in your own work, have built tools or automations with it, and have helped deploy AI technology safely and successfully across an organization.
  • The technical judgment to evaluate, test, debug, and maintain systems regardless of whether they were purchased, written by you, produced with AI, or delivered by a contractor.
  • Experience owning SOC 2 processes through completion, including control owners, evidence, assessors, remediation, and sustained operation after the examination.
  • Experience responding to real security incidents, including containment, investigation, recovery, communication, and turning lessons into durable improvements.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, identity, permissions, endpoint management, networking, scripting, and version control sufficient to build integrations and make sound implementation decisions.
  • A strong service mindset. You enjoy helping colleagues become more effective, follow problems through to resolution, and use feedback to improve the experience over time.
  • Independent execution in ambiguous environments. You set priorities, bring recommendations, manage dependencies, keep leaders informed, and drive work through completion with little oversight.
  • Experience selecting and managing contractors while retaining accountability for quality, security, deadlines, documentation, and handoff.
  • Clear, calm communication with scientists, engineers, operators, executives, vendors, auditors, and colleagues who need help.
  • Helpful, but Not Required
  • Experience in any of the following is a plus:
  • Scientific laboratories, robotics, hardware, sensitive research environments, or other environments where physical systems and software are tightly connected
  • FedRAMP or other demanding security and assurance programs
  • Facility moves, rapid company growth, laboratory buildouts, or opening a new office
  • Physical-access systems, security cameras, meeting-room AV, and building technology
  • Cloud permissions, engineering access, and secure data movement between laboratory and cloud systems
  • Example Problems You Might Work On
  • Warp is moving into a new office and laboratory while growing from roughly 20 people toward 50. What must be inspected, fixed, documented, or tested before employees and experiments depend on the space?
  • A robotics vendor requests persistent outbound connectivity and remote administrator access but cannot clearly explain its telemetry. How do we evaluate the risk and get to a practical decision without unnecessarily blocking the team?
  • How should we automate onboarding so every employee receives the right equipment, accounts, permissions, and orientation before day one—and exceptions reach the right human owner?
  • Where can AI and self-service tooling eliminate recurring IT work, and how do we verify that the resulting systems remain secure, accurate, and maintainable?
  • How do we complete SOC 2 examinations without turning assurance into a periodic scramble or slowing down the company?
  • An employee reports suspicious account activity while a critical experiment is running. How do we contain the risk, preserve evidence, communicate clearly, and keep the necessary systems operating safely?
  • What Success Looks Like
  • Warp’s scientists, engineers, and operators can rely on their technology without thinking about it. New employees are productive on day one, recurring friction becomes automation or self-service, connected laboratory systems are understood and appropriately protected, and security controls work as part of normal operations. When something breaks, the response is fast, calm, and durable—and the company becomes more effective with every iteration.
