Description

The studio in Brisbane is hiring a QA Lead to work alongside the QA Director and help run day-to-day QA across several projects.

This role suits an experienced QA professional ready to move into leadership, combining QA expertise with coordination, communication and team development.

Success means keeping QA organised and proactive, aligned with the wider development process, and communicating critical issues and risks clearly. The lead also supports the team through mentoring and contributes to better QA processes.

The studio has operated in Brisbane since 2014 and is the largest game studio in Queensland, with over 130 staff across programming, art, design, production, QA, audio, marketing, administration and management. It is building an interactive experience based on one of Australia's most iconic IPs, along with several unannounced projects. The studio holds Great Place to Work Certification for 2025-2026.

The hiring process has three stages: a call with the Talent Acquisition Team, an interview with the QA Director, and an interview with the QA team.

Responsibilities

  • Organise QA activities, priorities and deliverables across several projects and milestones.
  • Assign QA tasks based on project priorities, timelines and team capacity, and track their progress.
  • Act as the main link between QA and Development, passing on bugs, priorities, requirements and project risks.
  • Monitor QA progress and report on testing, critical issues, blockers and delivery risks.
  • Coordinate external QA teams so their testing matches project requirements and schedules.
  • Keep bug tracking, QA plans, test documentation and supporting processes up to date across projects.
  • Help the QA Director manage the team, including mentoring, performance development and daily coordination.
  • Find ways to improve QA workflows, communication and team efficiency.
  • Make sure QA is well integrated into the wider game development and production process.

Requirements

  • Professional experience in quality assurance, ideally in the video game industry.
  • 5+ years progressing through QA roles, with a clear understanding of the QA lifecycle at junior, mid and senior levels.
  • 2+ years leading, coordinating or mentoring within a QA team.
  • Experience coordinating QA across projects, milestones or releases.
  • Solid understanding of Agile and software or game development processes.
  • Experience managing and prioritising tasks across several projects or workstreams.
  • Clear communication of issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working closely with Development, Production and other cross-discipline teams.
  • Experience with project management and task-tracking tools such as Jira, Hansoft or similar.
  • Experience managing and prioritising bugs, including severity, priority and release impact.
  • Strong organisation and the ability to handle competing priorities and changing deadlines.
  • Ability to identify risks, blockers and resourcing concerns and escalate them appropriately.
  • Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating.
  • Genuine passion for games and interest in the video game industry.
  • Desirable: previous experience as a QA Lead, QA Coordinator, Senior QA or a similar leadership role.
  • Desirable: experience coordinating internal QA teams.
  • Desirable: experience working across multiple platforms and release cycles.
  • Desirable: familiarity with first party submission requirements on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Apple or similar platforms.
  • Desirable: experience with live service games or ongoing content releases.
  • Desirable: experience with QA tools, test management systems or automation.
  • Desirable: experience with programming or scripting languages such as C++, C, Python or similar.
  • Desirable: formal project management or Agile certification.
  • Desirable: experience with game development tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Perforce or similar.
