Description

FiNC, the company, connects candidates that corporate media ignores with independent media, third parties, movements and citizens. Money, access and visibility usually decide races before voters weigh in, and the company wants to shift that.

The company takes no investors and no financing with conditions attached. It is being built collaboratively from the ground up. It is an LLC for now and aims to become a nonprofit cooperative owned by the people who build it, operating not for profit in the meantime.

Neurodiversity and different ways of thinking are treated as strengths. Roles are shaped around how each person works, leads remove obstacles for the team, and a good week is judged by what got done, not hours online. Role check-ins are ongoing so the job can grow with you.

The Tech Team owns the Digital Politics Hub, the coalition's directory. Each candidate, outlet, third party or movement that commits to representation gets a home page linking its social accounts, featured videos and positions.

The directory is still thin. A handful of candidates, dozens of podcasts and several movements are interested but have not yet joined or built profiles, and the tech and the pitch both need work before they become partners.

The Hub works, but it does not yet read as one coherent place. It was built by people focused on making it run, not on making it clear. Group Profiles and Group Discovery need someone to define the standard before they are built, and that is this role.

Within 90 days: the existing pages share one look and a keyboard-only user can get through all of them; Citizen login and Civic Tags feel like part of the Hub; Group Profiles and Group Discovery are designed and the first version is built in Softr.

Most people who stay are split between a career and what the work could do for the country. The rest of FiNC spends most of its hours on outreach, social and video, since that is what brings people to the product. If only the tech interests you, this seat is not the right fit.

Responsibilities

  • Design the Hub's look and the paths people take through it, and build those designs yourself in Softr instead of handing off mockups.
  • Work in Softr's builder to ship live pages. Where a standard block falls short, customize it with HTML and CSS you write or generate with AI. Larger work goes to developers.
  • Design Citizen login and Civic Tags so people add their name and pick the issues they care about, and are grouped by those issues rather than by party.
  • Design Group Profiles and the Group Portal, the home each movement, outlet, third party and creator receives on joining, so a small group looks credible without a press office.
  • Design Group Discovery so citizens can find groups that match them without going through a party or a news feed.
  • Tidy what exists: calmer pages, one consistent style, and a clear next step on every page.
  • Make accessibility a starting requirement, not a final check. Every page must work by keyboard alone, every field needs a screen reader label, contrast must be strong, and WCAG 2.1 AA is the target. The disability community is helping build this.
  • Connect Softr pages to Airtable views so lists, filters and detail pages work, and improve them weekly rather than saving changes for a large redesign.

Requirements

  • A portfolio of live product, UI or web design work. Early-career applicants are welcome, and shipped work counts more than years of experience.
  • Hands-on work in a no-code or low-code tool such as Softr, Webflow, Bubble, Glide or Framer.
  • A strong visual eye. This seat exists because the team needs taste it does not yet have.
  • You think in flows across several screens, not one screen at a time.
  • Comfort with relational data: linked records, filters and views.
  • Comfort with unfinished tools, since some things you will want are not yet possible in Softr.
  • You care whether people are actually represented, and that motivates your hours on this work.
  • HTML, CSS and some JavaScript, or the ability to get AI to help write them.
  • Experience testing accessibility with real assistive technology.
  • Experience with civic tech, directories or community products.
  • Softr and Airtable are a big plus.
  • Developers are also being sought, so mention any dev skills in your application.

Conditions

Pay is deferred. Team members contribute 15 to 20 hours per week during the Crowd-Starting phase, and compensation starts once the company is operational. The Founder is in the same position and has not drawn a salary.

Crowd-Starting is the model, and it suits people who believe in building something now that pays off for everyone later.

A Project Manager handles structure, tasks and sequencing. You make the visual and UX calls.

One developer works today and a second joins later. You build what Softr can handle, and developers build the heavier code.

A design advisor weighs in on major decisions but is not there day to day.

You work alongside the graphic designer and writers so visuals and words match.

Benefits

  • Your own product, built in-house. There is no client work and no handing designs to an agency.
  • Shipped pages go into your portfolio instead of unused mockups.
  • Startup pace: a small team and a short path from idea to live page, with decisions that hold.
  • A long runway. The Hub is a no-code prototype today, with a full rebuild planned, and the company intends for people shaping it now to help shape what follows.
  • Modern tools, and AI tools are welcome on the Tech Team.
  • Room to grow: leading the team is possible but not required, and the seat above this one is open.
  • The company intends to give every contributor who helps build it an ownership stake.
