Principal / Sr. Principal Software Engineer - Onsite Customer Integration

The company's Aeronautics Systems Sector is hiring a Principal or Sr. Principal Software Engineer for onsite customer integration work in its Global Surveillance Division, supporting the E-2D team.

The role is based onsite in Patuxent River, MD, and suits engineers who enjoy solving hard integration problems and seeing systems they helped build used in the field.

The engineer works across the full software lifecycle, from requirements through testing, release, installation and upkeep, and coordinates with program management, outside suppliers and government customers.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and unit test software across the full lifecycle.
• Connect your work with other software components by working with team members and customers.
• Help collect and report software metrics.
• Apply the program's software best practices in every phase of development.
• Work hands-on with engineers and technicians in a lab.
• Read, analyze and fold technical requirements into end-to-end system architectures.
• Work across several teams and lead efforts to resolve complex problems.
• Support the software working groups held with the customer.
• Write and share technical documents and presentations.
• Solve complex integration problems using your technical depth.
• Deploy, automate, maintain, troubleshoot and improve systems and software infrastructure, including application builds, releases, deployment and configuration.
• Work with program management, external suppliers and government customers.
• The role may be filled at Principal Software Engineer Level 3 or Sr. Principal Software Engineer Level 4.

Requirements

• Basic qualifications, Principal Software Engineer Level 3: a bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 5 years of related engineering experience, or a master's degree in a STEM field and 3 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in a STEM field and 1 year of related engineering experience.
• Basic qualifications, Sr. Principal Software Engineer Level 4: a bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 8 years of related engineering experience, or a master's degree in a STEM field and 6 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in a STEM field and 4 years of related engineering experience.
• Development experience in C/C++ or another object-oriented language.
• At least 3 years integrating technical solutions for a software product.
• At least 3 years on a project that used formal requirements and testing.
• Ability to travel from Patuxent River, MD to Melbourne, FL, spending at least one week a month in Melbourne, FL.
• Ability to obtain and keep a US Government clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) access within a timeframe set by business needs, with an interim Secret clearance required to start.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are required.
• Strongly desired: experience with OS configuration, bash scripting, C/C++ or other OOP languages, and networking in a Linux environment.
• Preferred qualifications: experience with remote teams in closed environments.
• Preferred qualifications: experience with systems engineering principles and software architecture best practices.
• Preferred qualifications: experience writing, reviewing and integrating formal requirements and keeping a requirements-to-test-case matrix.
• Preferred qualifications: experience writing, reviewing and updating formal test procedures.
• Preferred qualifications: experience presenting at formal SETR events such as PDR, CDR and TRR.
• Preferred qualifications: active TS/SCI, SAP/SAR access or polygraph.

Conditions

Onsite in Patuxent River, MD.

Travel up to 50% of the time.

Secret clearance required to start.

Relocation assistance may be available.

Primary level base salary range: $98,400.00 - $171,000.00.

Secondary level base salary range: $122,800.00 - $213,400.00.

The ranges are general guidelines. Base pay depends on factors such as the scope of the role and your experience, education, skills and the current market.
