Principal Security Engineer, Security Platform

The Digital Information Security Engineering team is hiring a deeply technical Area Tech Lead to set the long-term technical strategy and architecture for the Security Operating System, the foundational platform behind security services, automation and data-driven decisions across the enterprise.

The role defines the multi-year technical roadmap, aligns architecture across several engineering teams, and works with engineering and business leaders on measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and multi-year roadmap for the Security OS area, splitting it into credible incremental milestones that domain leads can deliver.
• Design and build core security platform services with reliable, well-instrumented interfaces for Security Platform customers.
• Turn security and product requirements into architecture and code, taking work from proof of concept to hardened production services.
• Act as the go-to technical leader for architecture, platform design and escalations in the area, documenting rationale and giving teams clear implementation paths.
• Work as a peer with engineering managers, product leaders and security executives to align technical direction with business goals, representing the area in cross-organizational architecture forums.
• Oversee architecture, quality, deployment and operational readiness across the delivery lifecycle while delegating execution to engineering teams.
• Design automation-first workflows that bring together security services and telemetry from diverse tools and data sources.
• Build integrations, plugins and hooks across the security ecosystem, covering IAM, application security, endpoints, cloud and data protection.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-driven and open-source security tools, where they add measurable value.
• Define and evolve service APIs so they stay scalable, secure and aligned with platform capabilities.
• Design for SLA and SLO compliance, observability and fault tolerance to keep the platform reliable.
• Spot technical risks and bottlenecks early and resolve them before they affect delivery or reliability.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in security engineering, platform engineering or secure software development.
• Solid grounding in security fundamentals: IAM, application security, data protection, credential management, and endpoint and cloud security.
• Deep experience designing and delivering RESTful APIs and service-based architectures.
• Practical work with containers, orchestration and infrastructure abstractions such as Docker, Kubernetes, API gateways and service meshes.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C++ or similar; experience across several languages is a plus.
• Hands-on work with CI/CD pipelines, such as GitHub Actions, and modern DevSecOps practices.
• Experience delivering cloud-native systems on AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
• Awareness of threat modeling, security architecture reviews and risk analysis.
• Experience aligning technical direction across multiple engineering teams or organizations, including executive communication and architectural governance.
• Familiarity with security data analysis, ML or AI-enhanced security workflows is a bonus.
• You will multiply team effectiveness through clear technical direction and strong execution.
• You will challenge assumptions and improve how the Security Platform is designed and run.
• You will own work from idea through production and into steady-state operations.
• You will keep learning, track new threats and test better approaches.
• You will do well in fast-moving settings where priorities shift and impact is visible.

Conditions

Work in a fast-moving environment with minimal guidance on ambiguous problems.

Targeted base pay: United States, Dallas Infomart Office (DAI): 158,000 to 238,000 USD per year.

Targeted base pay: Canada, Toronto Office (TRO): 133,000 to 183,000 CAD per year.

Pay ranges are the minimum and maximum target for new hires in this role, level and location, and may change over time. Individual pay depends on factors such as job-related skills, experience and relevant education or training.

The ranges cover base pay only and exclude bonus, equity and benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
