Description

The company builds aerospace, transportation, defence, security and space systems, and its teams bring together people from many countries to share ideas.

This onsite role in Orlando, FL, focuses on in-flight entertainment and aircraft connectivity for airlines and their passengers.

You will lead the engineering execution of complex in-flight entertainment, aircraft connectivity, and related product and system projects as a Principal Project Engineer.

You will work alongside the Program or Project Leader and the Project Design Authority, joining engineering work across disciplines so that solutions meet technical, customer, quality, cost and schedule targets.

You will shape execution strategies, solve major technical and delivery problems, and take projects from requirements through design, integration, qualification, certification support and acceptance.

You will make sound calls when situations are unclear, shape decisions across functions and levels, and guide other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams that develop, integrate, qualify and field aircraft entertainment and connectivity products and systems.
  • Coordinate hardware, software, systems, test, quality and other engineering groups to resolve hard technical problems and manage the interfaces between solution parts.
  • Own the execution plan for assigned projects, covering scope, milestones, resources, risks, dependencies and engineering budgets, and take corrective action when performance slips.
  • Act as Work Package Manager when assigned, accountable for the scope, budget, schedule, risks and deliverables of that package.
  • Work with the Program or Project Leader and Project Design Authority to keep technical decisions aligned with customer needs and agreed cost, schedule and quality commitments.
  • Serve as the main engineering contact for customers, key subcontractors and internal stakeholders on your projects.
  • Set the development strategy and tailor the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) for each assigned solution.
  • Lead requirements definition and solution design, including preparation for PDR, CDR, validation, qualification, certification support and final acceptance.
  • Run engineering reviews and make sure decisions, risks, actions and design changes are recorded and closed out.
  • Analyze performance measures and recurring issues, find root causes, and drive improvements to project execution, product performance or engineering processes.
  • Identify engineering staffing and skill gaps, and work with functional leaders to fill them for bids, projects and product delivery.
  • Mentor engineers, share technical and execution practices across teams, and carry out other duties your manager assigns.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or a related technical field.
  • At least 7 years of engineering experience, with growing responsibility, technical leadership and accountability for execution on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams through the development lifecycle, managing technical dependencies and solving complex problems across disciplines.
  • Proven ability to apply systems engineering and development processes across requirements, design, integration, verification, validation, and qualification and certification activities.
  • Experience building and managing execution plans, resource needs, schedules, budgets and work packages, including recovering from deviations that affect commitments.
  • Proven ability to use independent technical judgment, weigh solution trade-offs, manage engineering risk and lead resolution of hard technical problems.
  • Proven ability to lead technical reviews, present recommendations to customers and leadership, and influence decisions across functional lines.
  • Proficiency with tools for engineering planning, analysis, documentation and reporting.
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire. This role does not offer visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
