Description

The company develops self-driving and electric vehicle technology.

The AV ML Infra team builds machine learning infrastructure for autonomous driving work and supports groups such as Embodied AI, Simulation and Data Science.

The platform helps engineers run large-scale experiments more efficiently, raises their productivity and brings newer ML methods into everyday use.

The stack has three parts: AI validation and inference, which runs large simulation jobs and manages reliable inference pipelines; ML compute, which optimizes training and inference across cloud and on-prem resources; and AV pipelines and lineage, which orchestrates ML workflows and tracks data and model lineage for reproducibility.

This leadership role covers a growing organization. You will set long-term direction and execution plans for the company's AI and ML work, lead a major step up in infrastructure capacity for expected scale, design the team structure and build strong ties with cross-functional partners.

The role sits within infrastructure engineering and does not apply ML models to specific tasks. The goal is to build infrastructure products that let company teams do machine learning and data science at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and test scalable distributed computing and data processing systems on current cloud platforms, GCP or Azure.
  • Own technical projects from start to finish, help shape the product roadmap and make sound calls on major tradeoffs.
  • Take part in planning, code reviews and design discussions, weighing how each project affects other teams and resolving disagreements early.
  • Run technical interviews to a consistent bar, onboard engineers and interns, and coach them while encouraging learning and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience, ideally with large-scale distributed systems.
  • 5+ years of experience leading large initiatives.
  • Skill building scalable cloud infrastructure in Python, C++, Golang or a similar language.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • A record of building and maintaining systems at scale.
  • A bachelor's, master's or PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Genuine interest in autonomous vehicle technology and its potential.
  • Careful attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A history of solving complex problems efficiently.
  • A startup mindset: comfort with uncertainty and willingness to take on several roles at once.
  • Bonus: experience with Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.
  • Bonus: experience with open-source orchestration platforms such as Kubeflow, Flyte or Airflow.
  • Bonus: experience with model serving frameworks such as RayServe, vLLM or Triton.
  • Bonus: experience with Kubernetes.
  • Bonus: understanding of ML models and pipelines.
  • Bonus: proficiency in Python, C++ or Golang.
  • Bonus: relevant publications.
