Description

The company is a health-tech business working to improve health outcomes by driving digital change across life sciences. It combines scientific knowledge, evidence-based method and human insight to build digital tools that help healthcare work better for more people.

It works where healthcare, technology, data and analytics meet, changing how clinical research is run, how care reaches people and how patients experience treatment. Its solutions are designed to scale and to speed up work, improve decisions and lead to better patient results.

Teams from different disciplines tackle hard problems together and keep learning in a quick, high-stakes setting.

Staff are expected to work from the office three days a week to support in-person collaboration, and the company also values flexibility and balance.

As Principal AI Engineer, you will design and build agentic AI systems for life sciences products. You will sit between AI research and real healthcare use, creating agents that reason, plan and act on their own to solve complex clinical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy advanced agentic AI solutions using current large language models.
  • Develop new methods for agent memory, tool use and collaboration between multiple agents.
  • Build advanced NLP systems for retrieval, information extraction, structured generation and graph reasoning.
  • Create automated techniques to design, evaluate and optimize agents.
  • Find and test prompt engineering approaches that work well for agentic systems.
  • Build observability pipelines that monitor model and agent performance continuously.
  • Lead demanding projects in agentic AI, LLM orchestration and multi-agent systems.
  • Build AI agents that affect clinical trials, drug discovery and patient care.
  • Work with product, design and clinical colleagues to turn AI capabilities into healthcare solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and help shape AI strategy across the organization.
  • Present at conferences, publish technical work, contribute to open-source projects and help set good practice in healthcare AI.
  • Possible projects include clinical document generation agents, search tools for medical research, clinical trial optimization tools, synthetic patient data generation and multimodal healthcare AI assistants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics or computer science.
  • At least 4 years of applied machine learning experience, with a strong focus on deep learning, NLP and generative AI.
  • Extensive experience testing language model behavior, prompting models and building products with them.
  • Expert Python skills and advanced ML/LLM framework knowledge, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Google ADK, CrewAI, LangChain or LlamaIndex.
  • Extensive experience with AWS services such as SageMaker, Bedrock, MSK, EKS, ECS and OpenSearch.
  • Deep understanding of agentic AI systems and frameworks, including agentic design patterns, multi-agent systems and reinforcement learning.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Desirable: PhD in a relevant field such as mathematics, computer science or data science.
  • Desirable: demonstrated technical leadership, including delivering large-scale AI projects.
  • Desirable: experience building complex agentic systems using LLMs.
  • Desirable: experience with low-level languages used for high-performance ML code, such as C/C++, Rust or CUDA.
  • Desirable: contributions to open-source AI projects or building proprietary AI frameworks.
  • Desirable: expertise in areas such as few-shot learning, meta-learning and explainable AI.
  • Desirable: experience with AI ethics, responsible AI practices and the regulatory landscape for AI deployment in life sciences.
