Platform Support Engineer

Description

The company is hiring a Platform Support Engineer on a 6-month fixed term contract to keep its Windows-based infrastructure stable, reliable and performing well, including its virtualised server environments.

This is hands-on infrastructure support work: troubleshooting platform problems and supporting incident and problem management across the credit suite.

The ideal candidate has solid Windows Server administration experience, strong hands-on knowledge of VMware and Hyper-V, and is comfortable using PowerShell to diagnose and fix infrastructure faults.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day support and troubleshooting for Windows Server infrastructure in both non-production and production environments.
• Run and maintain VMware and Hyper-V hosts, clusters and virtual machines.
• Investigate and fix infrastructure incidents, performing root cause analysis to stop them coming back.
• Write and upkeep PowerShell scripts that automate routine tasks, monitoring checks and troubleshooting.
• Watch platform health and performance, escalating issues and coordinating their resolution within SLAs.
• Help with patching, upgrades and maintenance on Windows Server, keeping service disruption to a minimum.
• Take part in incident and problem management, including root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
• Keep documentation, runbooks and standard operating procedures for infrastructure support up to date.
• Work with engineering, support and third-party providers to resolve infrastructure issues and make the platform more reliable.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of Windows Server infrastructure administration and support.
• Good experience troubleshooting infrastructure issues in production.
• Good working knowledge of PowerShell for scripting, automation and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with VMware and Hyper-V is essential.
• Understanding of core infrastructure components: networking, storage, Active Directory and DNS/DHCP.
• Experience supporting incident and problem management processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, staying calm and methodical under pressure during incidents.
• Clear communication, able to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
• A proactive, ownership-driven approach to keeping the platform stable and reliable.
• Nice to have: experience in financial services, fintech or another regulated industry.
• Nice to have: familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure.
• Nice to have: exposure to monitoring and alerting tools such as SCOM, Azure Monitor or Nagios.
• Nice to have: ITIL awareness, or experience working within a formal incident or change management framework.
