Description

The company's Space Systems business unit, which covers Multi-Domain Operations and Missile Defense Integration, is hiring a Level 2 Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer to work on infrared hard body missile modeling.

The Threat Modeling Center builds models and simulations that stimulate element models of the Missile Defense Agency's Ballistic Missile Defense System. Its work includes kinematic missile modeling, infrared and RF signature modeling, data production and analysis, and sustainment of the center's software baseline. The center supports the Missile Defense Agency's Engineering Directorate task order.

The role is based on site at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. You would be on site every day, with no remote or hybrid option.

You would work with little to no direct supervision as a core member of the missile modeling team, talking regularly with threat stakeholders, intelligence analysts, and other engineers to make missile object representations as accurate as possible.

Responsibilities

  • Capture and document requirements for the infrared signature representation of a missile.
  • Develop infrared hard body missile threat models for use across several modeling and simulation tools, frameworks, and media.
  • Build your knowledge of threat model phenomenology, with a focus on infrared signatures and infrared signature prediction and simulation models.
  • Support data production for Missile Defense Agency ground test modeling and simulation, and meet the schedule for those events.
  • Work closely with the center's software engineers.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders on new IRHB models and on frequent updates to existing missile systems.
  • Learn to interpret stakeholder requirements and help ensure rigorous verification and validation of every deliverable.
  • Help coordinate automation and tooling improvements that boost efficiency and meet leadership goals.

Requirements

  • A STEM bachelor's degree (science, technology, engineering, or math) is preferred, with 2 years of relevant experience, or 0 to 2 years of experience with a master's degree.
  • Strong background in math, physics, and/or engineering.
  • Experience analyzing technical data sets.
  • Working knowledge of basic thermodynamics.
  • Experience with scripting or automation languages such as Python, Bash, or MATLAB.
  • Experience verifying and validating data.
  • Solid understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes.
  • Result-focused, self-motivated, and able to work well in a dynamic team and produce reliable products and documentation by set deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to meet business needs.
  • A current, active, in-scope U.S. Government Secret security clearance at the time you apply, which is required to start.
  • Preferred: Experience analyzing flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable.
  • Preferred: Strong background in missile system engineering performance.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with material science.
  • Preferred: Background in infrared signature modeling.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with the Optical Signatures Code (OSC).
  • Preferred: Experience with Agile software development, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of missile systems.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with infrared signature concepts and the physics of hard body heating and how it affects infrared intensities.

Conditions

Travel of up to 10% of the time is required to support business needs.

You must hold an active Secret clearance to start.

On site at Schriever Space Force Base every day.

Base pay range for this level is $83,400.00 to $125,200.00. This is a general guideline. Final offers depend on factors such as the scope of the role, your experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

The application window is estimated at 20 days from the posting date, but it may be shortened or extended based on business needs and the number of qualified candidates.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance may be available.
