Description

The company designs and develops mission-critical systems for defence and security customers. This role supports the radar programme, the largest single programme delivered from the Edinburgh site, with next generation radars now in full scale production and delivered to front-line customers.

The company is a global aerospace, defence and security business headquartered in Italy, with over 53,000 staff worldwide and 8,500 across 9 UK sites.

The Fitness for Purpose (FFP) framework is non-contractual. It was agreed between the company and the purchaser to help rank System Problem Reports (SysPRs) so the radar reaches an acceptable maturity against operationally relevant criteria.

There are two planned software releases to deliver an operationally capable radar that meets the specification. The Mk0 radar is the entry-into-service product being assessed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational evaluation of the Mk0 radar against the FFP criteria.
  • Lead a team that runs product gap analysis against operationally relevant scenarios.
  • Identify and sentence Problem Reports, and set their priority.
  • Decide when maturity goals have been met.
  • Support compliance statements against the specification.
  • Coordinate agile on-train maturity assessments with the Product Manager and technical leadership, which subject matter experts will deliver.
  • Plan and present maturity point reviews to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify clear gaps in product maturity and support the sentencing of SysPRs.
  • Lead the company's UK systems engineering work on evaluating radar maturity for entry into service.
  • Define and lead work on maturity metrics and analysis tools, and present maturity to the Chief Engineer and Technical Director so effort goes to the right changes for FFP and compliance.

Requirements

  • Experience in radar systems design, qualification, or both, at lead engineer level.
  • Familiarity with pulsed Doppler radar waveform design and signal processing implementation.
  • Familiarity with radar tracking and the trade-offs against supporting detection schemes.
  • Experience certifying to recognised standards, including integration, test, evaluation and acceptance (ITEA).
  • Experience analysing data from radar flight trials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain SC security clearance and to work within UKEO and US ITAR TAA restrictions.
  • Experience working with stakeholders at different seniority levels, and helping teams make timely decisions.
  • What else would help: a 2:1 or higher honours degree in a relevant engineering or science subject.
  • Desirable: Chartered Engineer status.
  • What else would help: experience applying regulatory frameworks for airborne products, such as MAA or EASA.
  • What else would help: experience delivering training and awareness courses.
  • What else would help: experience with Matlab, Simulink, Siemens Teamcenter or IBM DOORS.

Conditions

Permanent contract, based onsite in Edinburgh, UK.

The posting's work setup field lists onsite working, while the flexible working benefit mentions hybrid options.

You report to the UK Chief Systems Engineer.

Pre-employment screening to the UK Government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) is required. National Security Vetting may also apply, which could include SC or Developed Vetting (DV).

The company welcomes applications from everyone and will make reasonable adjustments in recruitment on request.

Benefits

  • Up to 12 additional flexi-days of leave each year.
  • Pension scheme with up to 15% employer contribution.
  • Free access to mental health support and financial advice, plus employee-led networks.
  • Bonus scheme for employees at management level and below.
  • Free access to over 4,000 online courses on Coursera and LinkedIn Learning.
  • Referral reward for recommending a friend who is hired.
  • Up to £500 a year on flexible benefits, such as private healthcare, dental, family cover, tech and lifestyle discounts, and gym memberships.
  • Flexible hours with hybrid options. Talk to the company about part time work for this role.
