Description

The team builds the clinical work tools used at the point of care, covering everything from an order being created, through the documents tied to it, to the tasks that finish the work across the practice.

The team works on the platform capabilities and user-facing workflows that help clinicians and care teams get through complex work with less friction and mental load, and on making the underlying services perform reliably at scale.

This is a hybrid role in Boston, MA, reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. You will hands-on build scalable, reliable software with React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Java, APIs, relational databases, and distributed systems, and you will also assess generative AI and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead full-stack work across React frontend applications, Java services, and the APIs that connect them.
  • Mentor engineers on the team and guide their architecture and design decisions.
  • Build and maintain features with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React, following current frontend architecture patterns.
  • Design and support APIs and service integrations in distributed systems, spanning both monolith and microservices setups.
  • Create and improve relational data models and the database-backed features that rely on them.
  • Work with product, design, and engineering colleagues to turn requirements into solutions that are easy to maintain.
  • Assess generative AI and AI-assisted development tools and apply them to improve workflows, code quality, and delivery speed.
  • Make technical decisions that improve scalability, reliability, maintainability, and clarity of the system.
  • Investigate production issues, find root causes, and deliver lasting fixes across application layers.
  • Travel when team or business needs require it.
  • Help plan and set priorities for team delivery.
  • Take part in code reviews and encourage consistent engineering practices.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to make workflows clearer and implementations better aligned.
  • Help improve engineering standards, documentation, and how the team operates.
  • Help evaluate legacy technologies and possible migration paths in large production environments.
  • Look into GraphQL, Unix/Linux, and other tools that could strengthen the platform.
  • Join incident response and follow-up work when needed.
  • Suggest ways to improve developer productivity, deployment workflows, and testing practices.
  • Share knowledge across the wider engineering organization through informal mentoring and technical talks.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 6 years of experience in software engineering or full-stack application development.
  • A track record of leading full-stack teams, including mentoring and design oversight.
  • Proficiency with React, modern frontend architecture, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Strong Java programming experience.
  • Experience using generative AI and AI-assisted software engineering tools in everyday development work.
  • Solid experience with relational databases and data modeling.
  • Experience designing and supporting APIs and working across distributed, evolving architectures, including monolith and microservices.
  • Strong communication skills, ownership, and accountability, with a history of adopting new technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and cross-functional partners in a product-focused setting.
  • Optional: exposure to GraphQL, Unix/Linux environments, and legacy technologies in large-scale production systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setup in Boston, MA.
