Junior Developer ABAP Kernel (C/C++)

Description

You will start as a junior developer and learn from experienced colleagues, then gradually take on ownership of core infrastructure components that the ABAP Platform depends on.

You will join the ABAP Kernel team in Brno. The team builds and maintains the infrastructure components and libraries shipped with the ABAP Kernel, which are needed to run, monitor and support the ABAP Platform, including in cloud environments.

The role lets you strengthen your C/C++ skills, learn how the ABAP Platform is built at its foundation, and work on technology that customers worldwide rely on.

The ABAP Platform team has over 800 experts worldwide and provides the technical base for solutions used by more than 12 million people in 120 countries. The team focuses on the ABAP Platform Technology Foundation and offers room to learn, share knowledge and grow professionally.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain ABAP Kernel infrastructure components and libraries, mainly in C/C++.
• Help improve monitoring and observability so the platform runs reliably and efficiently.
• Investigate issues, fix defects and support components used in mission-critical customer environments.
• Work closely with colleagues in Brno and Walldorf across the full development lifecycle.
• Follow agile practices such as code reviews, testing and continuous improvement, and keep close feedback loops with stakeholders.
• Deepen your expertise in kernel-level development, enterprise software engineering and the ABAP Platform.

Requirements

• A university degree in computer science, engineering, natural sciences or a related field.
• Solid knowledge of C or C++.
• A commitment to software quality and customer satisfaction.
• Analytical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
• A practical curiosity about AI. You use AI-assisted tools to work more effectively and want to learn how AI fits into modern development.
• Fluent English. German and Czech are a plus.
• Knowledge of ABAP.
• Experience with operating systems, distributed systems, monitoring or observability.
• First experience with agile software development, testing or debugging.
