Description

The company runs an AI-powered network for trusted trade, serving governments and businesses with products that aim to keep trade flowing while making the global economy more resilient and secure.

The Platform Operations and Compliance team connects the company's products to customer environments. It builds custom data pipelines, brings proprietary customer data into the knowledge graph, and keeps large public sector data pipelines reliable, cost-controlled and compliant. The team works with customers and with internal engineering, machine learning, information security and product groups.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy and keep improving distributed big-data pipelines that power the company's network analysis, machine learning, data ingestion and fusion work.
• Study the platform and push it toward greater scale so it meets the changing needs of customers.
• Help keep the platform reliable, cost-efficient and controlled, and support customer security reviews and accreditation.
• Act as the technical expert in client meetings, translating complex government requirements into the platform's architecture.
• Work alongside engineers, data scientists and product managers in a cross-functional team.
• Assess new tools, technologies and practices for building, orchestrating and deploying data pipelines, and recommend which to adopt.

Requirements

• You have 8+ years of technical experience in data engineering or closely related roles.
• You have worked with or inside the public sector.
• You have broad experience designing, building and maintaining complex data models drawn from many sources and schemas.
• You have led the full lifecycle of large-scale data ingestion and standardisation pipelines, covering design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring and maintenance.
• You build sustainable software and self-healing data workflows, and you take data security and governance seriously.
• You have worked with cloud platforms, including architecting, engineering or administering cloud solutions.
• You communicate well in writing and in person, and you have dealt directly with external customers and stakeholders to define technical work and set expectations.
• You follow current data engineering trends, care about engineering quality, and share what you know with others.
• You have managed a data platform, including releases, costs and infrastructure changes.
• You have led and mentored other engineers on complex data engineering projects.
• You have some exposure to trade compliance, supply chain management or a similar field tied to international commerce.
• You know entity resolution or graph databases.
• You have experience deploying machine learning pipelines.
• You have experience with IRAP, Essential Eight or other information security standards and frameworks.
• You use AI tools to improve the quality and speed of your work.
• The team uses Python, SQL, Databricks, OpenSearch, Postgres, AWS, Azure, GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog and others.

Conditions

The role is based in Australia, with occasional onsite travel to the Canberra hub.
