Description

The company runs a platform that evaluates how AI models perform on real work. It was founded by researchers from UC Berkeley's SkyLab.

Tens of millions of people use the platform each month to compare frontier AI systems on everyday tasks such as coding, creative generation and professional productivity. Leading AI labs, enterprises and independent researchers use the resulting preference data and open datasets to study model behaviour in real workflows.

The team includes researchers, academics, builders and creatives from UC Berkeley, Google, Stanford and DeepMind. It is small and early-stage, and values craftsmanship, curiosity and impact over hierarchy.

The company is hiring an Event and Field Marketing Manager to run its in-person presence. Most of its community is online, while the AI researchers, developers, creative professionals and lab and enterprise teams who depend on its evaluations meet at only a few events a year. You will shape the company's presence at those events and create new ones, from Bay Area community meetups to major industry conferences.

You will work with Product Marketing, Community, Research, Comms and Partnerships. Your job is to turn the company's online credibility into offline relationships: occasional users who vote regularly, researchers who trust the methodology, and enterprise and lab contacts who become customers and partners.

This is a hands-on role based in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. You will plan, run and measure events from start to finish while keeping the scientific rigour, transparency and community focus the company is known for.

Responsibilities

  • Set the event and field marketing strategy, including the annual calendar, budget and goals for brand awareness, community growth and pipeline.
  • Plan and run company-hosted events from start to finish, such as community meetups, model launch gatherings, researcher and developer dinners, workshops and VIP experiences, mainly in the Bay Area.
  • Lead the company's presence at AI research and industry conferences, covering sponsorships, booths, side events, speaking slots and on-site team coordination.
  • Build repeatable playbooks for planning, vendor and venue selection, run-of-show, staffing and follow-up so the events program can grow without losing quality.
  • Work with Community and Product Marketing to tie events to product launches, major model releases and campaigns, and to give attendees clear ways to stay engaged afterward.
  • Work with Partnerships and Sales to pick target accounts, labs and enterprise contacts for events, and design experiences that move those relationships forward.
  • Turn the evaluation methodology and community into talks, demos and on-site experiences that are easy to follow without losing rigour.
  • Manage event budgets, contracts, vendors, venues, swag and travel logistics.
  • Capture and reuse event content, including photos, video, on-site interviews, recaps, social posts and emails, with Comms and Community.
  • Define and track metrics such as attendance quality, user activation, pipeline influenced and sentiment, and report what worked and what to change.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in event, field or experiential marketing, ideally at a tech company working in AI, developer tools, SaaS or data-driven products.
  • Based in the SF Bay Area or willing to relocate there, and willing to work on-site at the downtown office.
  • A record of running events of many sizes, from small VIP dinners to large conference programmes, on time and on budget.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendors, venues and contracts, with close attention to detail and logistics.
  • Experience marketing to technical audiences such as researchers, engineers and developers, and a good sense of what they want from an event.
  • Ability to measure event results and link them to business outcomes such as community growth, user activation and pipeline.
  • Strong written, verbal and visual communication, and confidence representing the company in person to a demanding audience.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast iteration in an early-stage, fast-moving setting. Attention to detail and organisation are essential.
  • A proactive, self-directed approach with strong ownership and prioritisation.
  • Willing to travel for conferences and events, and to work some evenings and weekends when events need it.
  • Willing to be first on site at venues, receiving freight and shipments, setting up sponsorship items and handling other hands-on logistics, often alone.
  • Preferred: experience with AI or machine learning conferences, research communities or developer events.
  • Preferred: background in communities, platforms or products with network effects.
  • Preferred: experience hosting enterprise or executive events alongside Sales or Partnerships teams.
  • Preferred: familiarity with event attribution, lead capture and follow-up workflows.
  • Preferred: experience explaining scientific methodology and complex systems to target audiences.
  • Preferred: familiarity with tools such as Notion, Google Drive, Luma and Figma.
  • Preferred: prior startup experience.
