Description

The company makes application monitoring software that helps developers find and fix errors and performance issues before users notice them. It is trusted by more than 200,000 organizations and over 4 million developers, and is building an AI-native product line.

The Events Analytics Platform team builds and runs the distributed data systems behind the company's products. These systems store and query petabytes of telemetry, including errors, performance traces, replays, and logs, and they run fast, complex queries across billions of records on ClickHouse.

The platform also supplies the data behind Seer, the company's AI debugging agent, so AI systems can reach the production context they need to investigate issues.

This role leads that team of engineers. The work covers hard distributed systems problems, balancing architectural change against the reliability and performance of production systems, and working with product engineering teams on features that shape the developer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers on large-scale distributed data systems, building their technical skills, sense of ownership, teamwork, and career progress.
  • Make technical and architectural decisions for the platform's storage and query layers, weighing scalability, reliability, performance, and how easy the system is to maintain over time.
  • Set priorities and take projects from design through to production, keeping the team focused while balancing competing technical and product demands.
  • Steer the platform's architecture, including query optimization, separating storage from compute, and merging different event types into one analytical platform.
  • Build and extend analytical data systems that handle complex queries, heavy throughput, and efficient access to petabytes of event data.
  • Own the platform's day-to-day health: improve reliability, debug production problems, run incident response, and deal with scaling limits.
  • Work with product engineering teams to understand their technical needs, make sound tradeoffs, and ship platform capabilities for new product experiences.
  • Make sure the platform serves the analytical workloads and production context that Seer and other AI-driven features depend on.

Requirements

  • Significant professional software engineering experience, including managing and developing engineers, leading technical projects, and delivering engineering work.
  • A solid technical background in distributed systems, data infrastructure, analytical databases, or large-scale backend systems.
  • Hands-on experience building, scaling, or running data-heavy systems, with depth in at least one of these areas:
  • Analytical database infrastructure: running, scaling, tuning, or maintaining OLAP systems such as ClickHouse, Apache Pinot, Apache Druid, or similar systems in production.
  • Complex distributed data platforms: designing and building systems that use analytical databases or distributed storage as core parts, and owning their architecture, performance, and reliability.
  • Experience making architectural decisions and tradeoffs around scalability, performance, reliability, or operational complexity.
  • A record of owning production systems, including troubleshooting, incident response, performance tuning, and operational improvements.
  • Experience taking engineering projects from technical design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working with cross-functional stakeholders and turning technical requirements into clear engineering priorities.
  • Bonus:
  • Experience with ClickHouse, Pinot, Druid, or other column-oriented analytical databases.
  • Experience with query optimization, analytical storage design, or high-throughput data processing.
  • Experience building infrastructure for observability, telemetry, developer tools, or event-driven applications.
  • Experience working with product engineering teams on infrastructure that supports customer-facing features.
  • Proficiency in Python, Rust, or a similar backend language.
  • Unsure whether you meet 100% of the qualifications? Apply anyway. The company wants people who are keen on this opportunity and eager to grow.

Conditions

The base salary range the company reasonably expects to pay for this role is $220,000 to $400,000 USD, plus an annual performance bonus of up to 15% of base salary.

The actual base salary, or hourly wage, is set case by case based on factors such as work location, education, work and other relevant experience, skills, and job-related knowledge.

Benefits

  • Eligibility for the company's benefit plans and programs for this position, including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance.
