Description

The Real Estate team is growing because client demand has increased, and the company is hiring experienced and aspiring Engineering Design Managers to join a supportive team working on critical national infrastructure.

Design Managers act as strategic thinkers, collaborators and problem solvers, not only technical leads. You will work closely with clients to make sure the final product fits its purpose, with a focus on designs that can be built, meet compliance rules, and are innovative and efficient. You will lead design input on multi-disciplinary projects from early concepts through to delivery.

Projects span transport (rail and aviation), defence, real estate and highways. The company wants to hear from candidates at different career stages, as clients are driving industry change and the work offers a chance to broaden your project experience.

The company is a global professional services firm with over 22,000 people in more than 60 countries. It works across real estate, infrastructure, energy and natural resources, offering programme, project, cost, asset and commercial management, controls, procurement, supply chain, net zero and digital services. It is majority-owned by CBRE Group, Inc., with partners holding a significant minority stake.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Project Manager to oversee the contract with external design consultants, and take action if they fail to meet their contractual duties.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams of engineers from consultants and partner firms so that project solutions reach the required design standard.
  • Assess designs and solutions.
  • Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance and strategic stakeholders, along with design coordinators.
  • Liaise with clients, engineering managers, project managers, contractors and consultants on project issues, scope changes, risks and similar matters.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of design and management experience.
  • Around 5 years managing design through the full project lifecycle, ideally across several sectors and procurement routes.
  • Experience in building fit out, defence industry or machine integration is preferred.
  • A strong grasp of integrated design delivery and of managing consultant performance.
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and common data environments.
  • A degree, HNC or equivalent in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Strong practical knowledge of construction methods, work types and design solutions.
  • Experience with CAD tools, AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise well with clients and staff.
  • Self-driven, results-oriented and positive.
  • Skills in people management, time management and project design management.
  • Passion for construction and customer satisfaction, with high standards and a drive for excellence.

Conditions

The team works in a healthy, productive and flexible environment that supports work-life balance.

The company is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

Recruitment fees are never charged to candidates, and no agency working with the company may ask for one.

Benefits

  • Employees have the chance to shape change and feel heard in a supportive workplace.
