Description

The equipment software team builds custom semiconductor testers from the ground up, working across software, hardware and controls disciplines.

The team develops and supports software for equipment built by the in-house design group, the Micron Systems Integration Group, which designs and manufactures internal test equipment for the company.

The work is goal-focused and sits in a distributed, multi-disciplined engineering environment where the software must be agile, robust and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of 4-6 system and embedded software engineers working on bare metal, embedded Linux and higher-level interface software.
  • Mentor team members on technical and soft skills, coach their performance and follow up on performance goals.
  • Handle administrative tasks for team members.
  • Help the team hit its design commitments.
  • Split your time about evenly between people leadership and hands-on engineering.
  • Develop and debug embedded software in C++ and Python under Linux for microcontrollers and computing modules that interface with in-house hardware.
  • Build back-end command and control software, using IoT protocols, working with third-party control devices and automating tests.
  • Bring up, debug and test designs at the bench, using lab equipment, and provide feedback on schematics, PCB layouts and analog and digital circuits.
  • Work with software, electrical, mechanical and controls engineers on next-generation memory testers, including colleagues in other locations.
  • Write design and manufacturing documentation and technical reports in English, both written and spoken.
  • Attend occasional off-hour collaboration meetings with parts of the distributed team.

Requirements

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years of technical experience in a similar design role, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong C++ skills, including low-level programming and object-oriented concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and the GNU toolchain, along with advanced OS concepts, concurrency and inter-process communication.
  • Experience configuring and debugging networks.
  • Enjoy hands-on lab work and want to understand how systems work.
  • Familiarity with schematics and PCB layout, and with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs and SMUs.
  • Intermediate electrical engineering knowledge.
  • Preferred: 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Preferred: project leadership experience.
  • Preferred: experience using containers in development and deployment.
  • Preferred: experience with traceable calibration standards.
  • Preferred: familiarity with software build tools.
  • Preferred: system design experience across hardware and software.
  • Preferred: familiarity with PLM software.
  • Preferred: experience with, or interest in, building Agentic AI workflows into current or future processes.
