Description

The role leads the backend data engineering team on the Intelligence Data Science Team (IDST), which supports the J2 Intelligence Enterprise at SOCOM HQ in MacDill AFB, Florida.

Iron EagleX (IEX) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the company (GDIT). It builds agile IT and intelligence solutions, pairing small-team flexibility with global reach and emerging technology.

You will manage data infrastructure with advanced tools and methods and lead a small team doing the same. The work supports the Department of War's mission, and you will be expected to contain and deploy applications with Docker and to work confidently in AWS cloud environments.

Strong candidates have deep experience with Apache Airflow and know Postgres and Elasticsearch well. Advanced Docker, Kubernetes and Helm chart skills are a plus, as are GitLab, Python software testing, CI/CD pipelines on GitHub or GitLab, and AI/ML tools such as HuggingFace, PyTorch, Transformers and SQLAlchemy.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain reliable, scalable SQL databases.
• Work with cross-functional teams to turn client needs into solutions written in Python, Java, Kafka, Hive, R or Storm.
• Run cloud database platforms and keep their security controls in place.
• Build and support basic ETL/ELT pipelines that feed mission-critical analytics.
• Help integrate, clean and validate data from structured and unstructured sources.
• Contribute to data modeling, documentation and process improvements.
• Build Flask or FastAPI API endpoints that give access to Commercially Available Information (CAI), Publicly Available Information (PAI) and classified datasets.
• Create Apache Airflow data pipelines that run ETL into Postgres or Elasticsearch, using Python, Bash and SQL.
• Lead complex data engineering projects and mentor junior staff. Contribute to strategy and apply deep Python, SQL and Spark skills to hard data problems.
• Manage small technical teams that deliver value across a globally distributed enterprise.

Requirements

• Strong Python, Bash and SQL skills, with experience in Postgres or Elasticsearch.
• Ability to set up Flask or FastAPI applications, use Docker, use Git and test Python software.
• Knowledge of data warehousing and cloud technology on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Familiarity with Databricks, Spark or similar distributed data tools. Academic or project experience counts.
• Skills in API integration, data engineering, data ETL, Git and people management.
• 10+ years of related experience. Internship or academic project experience counts.
• Bachelor's degree in data engineering, computer science, information systems or a related field.
• No certifications required. Cloud foundational certifications are preferred.
• Current DoW TS/SCI clearance is required. Clearance must be obtainable at Top Secret/SCI level. No public trust or other clearance is required.
• US citizenship is required. Due to US Government contract requirements, only US citizens are eligible.

Conditions

Based onsite at MacDill AFB, Florida, five days a week, with a scheduled 40 hours per week.

Travel is less than 10% of the time.

Regular, full-time requisition in the Data Science and Data Engineering job family.

Salary is likely to fall between $145,350 and $196,650, but this is not guaranteed. Pay depends on experience, geographic location and possibly contract terms, and may fall outside this range.
