Description

The task force protects warfighters, critical infrastructure and the homeland from emerging unmanned aircraft system threats.

You would be the senior cybersecurity expert for the task force, keeping counter-UAS capabilities secure and resilient across mission, enterprise, cloud and vendor environments.

The work moves quickly in a Joint setting and involves close work with senior DoD, interagency and defense industrial base partners to improve cyber readiness for the counter-drone mission.

This is not a training position. The team needs someone with hands-on experience and sound judgment who can work on their own with little oversight. You would lead high-level architecture discussions, advise government and military leaders, deal with vendors, and help steer cybersecurity decisions for systems that need Authorities to Operate (ATOs).

Responsibilities

  • Act as the go-to cybersecurity engineering expert for the task force across enterprise, operational, cloud, hybrid and vendor-supported environments.
  • Lead and advise on cybersecurity architecture, system design, integration, testing, troubleshooting and risk-based technical decisions.
  • Turn mission and operational needs into secure design considerations, cybersecurity requirements and implementation priorities.
  • Lead or contribute to senior technical discussions on network architecture, cloud security design, boundary protection, interoperability and control implementation.
  • Evaluate cyber risks in government-run and vendor-run systems and propose practical fixes that fit mission needs.
  • Push cybersecurity integration for systems going through initial authorization, reauthorization, major changes or ongoing ATO upkeep.
  • Review and advise on security architectures, implementation approaches, control inheritance, test plans, technical documents and assessment results.
  • Take part in program reviews, design reviews, integrated product teams, engineering talks and senior stakeholder meetings as the cybersecurity engineering lead.
  • Work with Program Management Offices, mission and system owners, security teams and vendors to clear issues affecting authorization, compliance and interoperability.
  • Advise on the cyber effects of cloud adoption, cross-domain and system interfaces, externally provided services and defense industrial base partnerships.
  • Help make technical solutions match DoW, Joint, interagency and organizational cybersecurity requirements.
  • Explain technical and non-technical matters clearly to senior leaders, action officers, engineers, program staff and contractors.

Requirements

  • Active SECRET clearance.
  • At least 7 years of related experience.
  • A master's degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, engineering, computer science or a related field.
  • An active CISSP certification.
  • Proven senior-level experience in cybersecurity engineering, security architecture or a closely related area.
  • Hands-on experience with RMF and ATO work for DoW information systems.
  • Background working in networked, hybrid and cloud settings, including their security design and implementation.
  • Experience supporting or assessing complex systems with many stakeholders, security dependencies and vendor involvement.
  • Solid grasp of cyber risk management, security control implementation and system authorization.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities across competing demands and deliver in a fast-moving setting without close guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including credible engagement with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Can speak for the organization in meetings, reviews and talks with senior leaders, mission partners and contractors.
  • Desired: experience in Joint, interagency or other highly operational multi-stakeholder settings.
  • Desired: experience advising on high-level network architecture, enterprise integration and cloud security strategy.
  • Desired: experience with vendor-heavy ecosystems and defense industrial base coordination.
  • Desired: experience supporting systems with major ATO challenges, including externally provided services and inherited control models.
  • Desired: experience briefing senior leaders and advising government decision-makers on cyber risks and options.
