Description

The consulting function at the company leads large, enterprise-wide programs tied to key strategic priorities. Work often spans strategic transformation, regulatory change, product, operations, technology-enabled change and other enterprise priorities, delivered in partnership across the organization.

The function is building up internal program management capability, bringing in experienced leaders who can run complex programs and produce lasting business results.

As a Program Manager, Vice President, you own programs end to end, setting up the structure, governance, stakeholder alignment and execution discipline needed to deliver.

The team is looking for an experienced program manager with a strong record of leading large, complex programs. You think like an owner, see the whole program, set up effective governance, anticipate risks and dependencies, and push execution through to outcomes.

Listening and adapting to different stakeholders and situations matter just as much. You should be comfortable influencing senior leaders, challenging assumptions, weighing alternatives and working in complex, ambiguous settings.

Your background can come from financial services, technology, operations, regulatory, transformation or consulting, but program management and delivery must be your core expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large, complex programs from definition and mobilization through execution, implementation and delivery.
  • Own program outcomes end to end, keeping objectives, scope, milestones, resources, dependencies, risks and deliverables aligned.
  • Design the program structure, operating rhythm and delivery approach to suit each initiative.
  • Deliver hands-on, oversee delivery through others, or do both, depending on what the program needs.
  • Track measurable business outcomes such as financial benefit, a better risk profile, and improved client or employee experience, where relevant.
  • Use lessons from earlier programs to improve execution and spot challenges early.
  • Set up and run program governance: steering committees, working groups, decision forums, executive reporting and escalation paths.
  • Work with executive sponsors and senior leaders across business and functional areas to build alignment, drive decisions and keep people accountable.
  • Lead senior-level discussions, turning complex information into clear issues, options, decisions, priorities and actions.
  • Adjust communication and engagement to the audience, environment and circumstances.
  • Look across the whole program to spot emerging risks, issues, interdependencies and barriers early.
  • Solve problems before they materially affect outcomes.
  • Connect information across workstreams, functions and stakeholders to surface issues and dependencies that are not obvious.
  • Judge when to escalate or change approach.
  • Build trusted relationships with sponsors, senior business leaders, workstream owners, functional partners and external consultants.
  • Lead change across complex stakeholder groups and keep them aligned through execution.
  • Pick up on stakeholder concerns, competing priorities and resistance that could hurt delivery.
  • Influence without direct authority, and run constructive challenge and debate to reach decisions.
  • Manage external consulting partners where used, and fit their work into the wider program.
  • Help build the company's internal consulting and program management capability.
  • Take on varied assignments across strategic, regulatory, product, operational, transformation and technology-enabled initiatives.
  • Apply lessons across programs instead of relying on one subject area.
  • Share practices that improve program execution with the wider team.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on experience leading and delivering large, complex programs, with accountability for overall execution and outcomes.
  • A record of owning programs end to end, from setup and mobilization through implementation and delivery.
  • Experience leading multi-workstream, cross-functional programs with senior stakeholders across several business or functional areas.
  • Experience on programs with heavy senior involvement, several functions, significant investment and meaningful business results.
  • Strong experience setting up and running program governance, including steering committees, executive reporting, decision forums, escalation and program controls.
  • Experience leading change across complex organizations and stakeholder groups.
  • A proven ability to manage risks, issues, interdependencies, milestones and competing priorities, anticipating problems before they hit delivery.
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to communicate with senior sponsors, business leaders, operations teams, technology partners and external consultants.
  • Ability to listen closely, read stakeholder dynamics, think quickly and adapt to the audience and situation.
  • Proven skill at influencing without direct authority, challenging others, handling hard conversations and driving decisions and accountability.
  • Sound judgment: connecting information across workstreams, weighing alternatives and making risk-based calls in ambiguous or shifting conditions.
  • Enough understanding of technology and operational dependencies to spot likely impacts, ask good questions and bring in the right subject-matter experts.
  • Experience managing and integrating external consulting partners within larger programs.
  • Openness to challenge, debate, other viewpoints and changing assignments.
  • Preferred: financial services experience, though not required.
  • Preferred: consulting or client-facing experience.
  • Preferred: experience leading regulatory, strategic transformation, operating-model, product or technology-enabled programs.
  • A plus: Big Four or management consulting experience.
  • A plus: project or program management certification, though not required.
