Description

The company is hiring a senior Java backend developer for its Margin Calculation technology team within Prime Services.

The platform handles large volumes of financial data and runs complex business rules to work out client margin requirements and support the firm's risk management.

The work is hands-on Java development, technical design, performance tuning, and end-to-end ownership of business-critical functionality.

You will collaborate with developers, business analysts, and risk and operations teams across several regions.

This senior role lets you shape platform design, mentor developers, and improve engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and ship Java applications that support margin calculation.
  • Turn complicated financial requirements into accurate, maintainable, well-tested code.
  • Lead technical design for major enhancements and help shape the platform's technical roadmap.
  • Speed up calculations using concurrency, multithreading, parallel processing, caching, and efficient database access.
  • Build high-volume batch and event-driven workflows.
  • Review code and designs, set development standards, and mentor engineers.
  • Take ownership of deliverables from requirements analysis through production release.
  • Investigate production incidents, find root causes, and deliver lasting fixes.
  • Strengthen monitoring, resiliency, operational support, and recovery processes.
  • Work with global technology and business teams to manage dependencies, risks, and delivery commitments.
  • Make sure solutions meet security, regulatory, audit, and technology-control requirements.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional software development experience, with deep hands-on Java skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of core Java: collections, streams, concurrency, multithreading, synchronization, and memory management.
  • Solid experience with Spring, especially Spring Boot, Spring Batch, Spring Integration, and Spring Data.
  • Experience building high-volume, calculation-heavy, or distributed applications.
  • Strong grasp of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and clean-code principles.
  • Experience with Kafka, JMS, or similar messaging technologies.
  • Strong SQL and relational database skills.
  • Experience with JUnit, Mockito, test-driven development, and automated integration testing.
  • Proven track record of diagnosing and improving application performance.
  • Proficient in Linux, Git, CI/CD, and production-support practices.
  • Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Ability to lead technical delivery and explain ideas clearly to both technical and business audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred: experience with margin, collateral, risk, pricing, Prime Services, or other financial platforms.
  • Preferred: experience developing calculation engines or implementing complex business rules.
  • Preferred: experience with large-scale batch processing and job scheduling.
  • Preferred: experience with Apache Geode, GemFire, or another distributed caching technology.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Hibernate, JPA, Jackson, and related Java frameworks.
  • Preferred: experience modernizing complex or legacy applications.
  • Preferred: experience with application monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance profiling.
