Applied Scientist

The company runs the largest live streaming service in the world, with communities spanning gaming, entertainment, music, sports, cooking and beyond.

The GTM Science team is hiring an Applied Scientist to work on open-ended problems around creators and content signals.

The role covers ads, brand safety, creator sponsorship and content understanding, and you would lead high-profile projects.

You would apply a broad set of ML methods to user behavior, metadata, and user-generated text and video, then take models from prototype to production alongside scientists, engineers and product partners.

You will report to the Senior Data Science Manager for GTM.

Responsibilities

• Build machine learning products that improve content understanding and help creators and viewers form and find communities.
• Shape and run high-impact projects by starting from customer problems, and decide when a classical model fits better than a state-of-the-art one.
• Work with engineering and product teams to prototype models and deploy them into data pipelines and ML services.
• Raise the science culture on the team by keeping up with and testing new methods in LLMs, computer vision, inference and model evaluation.

Requirements

• Degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics or engineering, plus one of the following:
• 5+ years of hands-on industry experience with applied ML and a bachelor's degree.
• 3+ years of applied ML experience and a master's degree.
• 1+ year of applied ML experience and a PhD.
• Experience evaluating LLMs.
• Experience leading projects staffed by many scientists and engineers.
• Experience working with technical and non-technical partners and stakeholders.
• Strong skills in Python and SQL, plus modern open source ML libraries such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
• Experience building software on AWS or similar cloud computing services.
• Bonus: PhD specialized in machine learning.
• Bonus: experience with computer vision, LLM inference or content understanding.
• Bonus: 1+ year working in GTM, content or creator organizations, not necessarily as a scientist.
• Bonus: familiarity with the company, its business and its community.

Conditions

Based in San Francisco, CA.

Base salary range is $171,600 to $222,200 USD.

Pay also includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final pay depending on experience, qualifications and location.
