Description

The company is a robotics research and deployment firm based in Watertown, MA, founded at MIT. It designs and builds its own robot hardware, trains its own models, sells to customers ranging from small family-owned manufacturers to some of the largest brands in the world, and maintains its robot fleet across the United States.

The company builds a semi-humanoid robot with close to human-level dexterity and a robot for moving boxes, pallets, and bulk goods. Robots run as a connected network, and the fleet's combined experience is used to train better robot AI.

Most American factories and warehouses have no robots at all, and robots are not yet common in homes or businesses. The company is working to change that.

The team has more than 160 people, including researchers, engineers, technicians, operators, and sellers.

This role is the first Applied AI Engineer dedicated to Finance. It sits within the company's forward-deployed AI engineering group, which already embeds engineers in deployment, manufacturing, maintenance, and hardware and software teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the software that runs finance: planning, forecasting, billing, the monthly close, and the reports leadership and the board use to run the business.
  • Write whole workflows, tools, and AI agents yourself instead of relying on spreadsheets, and redesign finance processes where the software makes them better.
  • Work as a full member of the finance team and own its results through technology, with visibility across the business and an understanding of how robots, deployments, customers, and data affect the numbers.
  • Because the company charges for robot labor based on usage, connect billing, revenue, and unit economics to what the robots actually do.
  • Start by taking over and extending the finance tools already in place, then keep improving them as the team and business grow.
  • Build FP&A and forecasting tools that connect to existing systems, with live dashboards and analytics.
  • Automate reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, spend review, and variance explanations using software and AI agents.
  • Own the pipeline from usage to invoice so that every bill matches what the robots did.
  • Build a financial data layer that combines accounting, spend, CRM, billing, and robot operations data.
  • Model pricing, deal economics, fleet and financing scenarios, and the annual operating plan in code.
  • Add controls, checks, and audit trails so the numbers hold up to auditors, lenders, and investors.

Requirements

  • You have designed and shipped a complete system, such as a product, internal tool, data platform, or infrastructure, and can explain why it was built the way it was.
  • You write production-quality Python, SQL, APIs, and data pipelines, and you use LLMs and AI coding tools daily.
  • You have a strong technical background plus depth in another area such as finance, economics, operations, strategy, or having founded a company. Your career path may not have been a straight line.
  • You understand how a company's finances work and are interested in or experienced with finance. A finance job title is not required.
  • You build in checks, handle edge cases carefully, and will not accept a number you cannot explain.
  • You learn quickly, can work through unclear problems with little guidance, and want to have a real impact.
  • You want to be part of a business function. This is not a product engineering or research position.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants from every background.

Benefits

  • Health insurance fully paid by the employer, with no premium cost to you.
  • A managed 401(k) plan.
  • Unlimited PTO and all federal holidays off for full-time salaried staff. Hourly staff receive 16+ days of accrued paid time off and 1.5x pay on federal holidays.
  • Regular in-office meals and team social events during the year.
  • The company plans to expand benefits as it grows and continues to invest in support for employees at work and in their lives outside it.
