The Mission

As an SRE Expert, you will play a pivotal role in guiding tribe(s) toward achieving their Site Reliability Engineering objectives. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, balancing the priorities of individual tribes with those of the broader organization. This role requires strategic thinking, strong stakeholder alignment, and the ability to collaborate within a distributed team—each member focusing on a specific tribe.

WB Tech SRE is a CoE, with an IT Lead in the MT WB Tech. WB Tech focuses on facilitating the functional and product-oriented activities of the Wholesale Banking division across borders. Examples of these activities are Lending, Financial-Markets and Wholesale channels.

The CoE is made up of four different “teams”, who each have a specific responsibility and scope and has the following organization structure.

SRE Expert Leads – Focus on driving Reliability across the tribes and technologies, this role is functionally part of the Expert Leads

SRE Engineers – Focus on reliable engineering and engineering best practices

WBMIM – Incident coordination team that also includes some process owner roles and activities

SRE Testing – Team focused on test automation and test practices for WB

Each SRE Expert leads a tribe(s) in regard to their SRE practices and implementations. You are participating in Global SRE Guilds and have a responsibility for a set of SRE capabilities.

Roles and responsibilities

As a SRE Expert, you are dedicated to supporting the FMGT CBSM Team and the FMGT tribe in their SRE/Reliability objectives.

The CBSM team's focus is on all aspects of reliability and to have the best available service for customers/stakeholders. This role holds multiple facets entailing the following activities:

Responsibilities

• Reliability Governance:  Define, track, and enforce Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and Error Budgets across development teams and on a Critical Business Service level.
• Toil Reduction:  Analyze workflows to identify systemic inefficiencies and guide teams on how to automate operations or remove waste.
• Provide knowledge and help execute SRE topics, like SLO/SLI definitions and setup.
• Analyze and help support in Root Cause analysis and Swiss Cheese Post-Mortems , help identify and check execution of the necessary improvement actions to prevent the incident in the future.
• Data analysis (Incident, Problem, Change) identify systemic causes, propose structural improvements, and advocate them in the organization.
• Provide hands-on support in case application teams are struggling with any reliability topic.
• The SRE Expert role is one that requires flexibility and agility with switching technical expertise and communicative skills to facilitate the organization.
• Contribute to the E&R organisation

Requirements

• Experience:  4+ years of experience in Software Engineering, SRE, or Technical Product Management with a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Process & Frameworks:  Strong expertise in establishing SLOs/SLIs, error budget policies, and continuous improvement frameworks.
• Observability Knowledge:  Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and tracing concepts (e.g., Prometheus, Datadog, OpenTelemetry) to review system health metrics.
• Soft Skills:  Exceptional communication and negotiation skills. You must be comfortable influencing engineering practices and mentoring developers without direct authority.
• Bonus Points (Nice to Have)
• Experience implementing ITIL, Agile, or DevOps practices at scale.
• Certification in Cloud Architecture or Agile Project Management.
• Previous experience as a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager.

• Currently we are looking for someone that feels they fit the above description and understands the below technical skill set.
• Knowledgeable on CI/DC standards (preferably Azure DevOps);
• Extensive knowledge of IT tools to share and collaborate;
• Experience with monolithic application landscape;
• Must have user experience with monitoring and alerting tools (Prometheus, ELK, Grafana etc).
• Knowledge of open telemetry is a bonus.
• Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering – (SRE) concepts, SLI, SLO, error budgeting, availability reporting
• Ability to understand Consumers and engineers
• Problem solving mentality
• Strong voice and healthy scepticism.
• Mentor and coach other SREs in the FMGT tribe
• Good knowledge of IT security principles
• Good knowledge of containers and cloud tooling
