CatchBack is building the next generation of collectibles commerce. We make buying, selling, and discovering collectibles more engaging through mystery packs, instant liquidity, marketplaces, and new ways for collectors to interact with their collections.
Responsibilities
We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our early engineering team and help build CatchBack from the ground up.
This is a high-ownership role. You'll ship directly to production, work closely with the founders, talk to users, and have significant influence over both our product and technical direction.
What You'll Work On
Build and ship new consumer-facing features across web and mobile
Design reliable backend systems for transactions, inventory, payments, and marketplace activity
Build real-time and interactive experiences around pack openings and collectibles
Improve performance and reliability as transaction volume scales
Integrate payments, logistics, authentication, and third-party APIs
Develop internal tools that help our operations team manage thousands of physical collectibles
Help make architectural and infrastructure decisions as we scale
Own projects end-to-end, from product discussions through deployment and monitoring
Requirements
Strong software engineering fundamentals
Experience building and shipping production applications
Comfortable working across the stack
Experience with modern TypeScript/JavaScript ecosystems
Familiarity with React/Next.js and backend/API development
Strong understanding of databases and data modeling
Ability to move quickly without sacrificing reliability
Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment with ambiguity and high ownership
Strong product instincts—you care about what users experience, not just whether the code works
Experience with high-volume consumer applications, payments/fintech, marketplaces, gaming, real-time systems, or mobile development is a plus, but isn't required.
Conditions
We're a small team and operate with a high degree of ownership. Engineers aren't handed fully specified tickets—they're expected to understand the problem, contribute to the solution, build it, and see how users respond. The ideal candidate would be both technically talented as well as product minded.
We ship quickly, care deeply about the product, and believe some of the best work happens when engineering, product, and design sit together.
This role is in-person in San Francisco.
Why CatchBack
You'll join at a stage where individual engineers can still meaningfully shape the company. You'll have the opportunity to own major systems, work directly with the founders, and help define the engineering culture as the team grows.
