As we expand our product offerings and modernize our technology stack, we are reimagining how we deliver scalable, cloud native solutions to our clients.

We are seeking a technically strong Manager, Software Engineering to lead a team of software engineers responsible for designing, building, and operating full stack applications, APIs, data processing capabilities, and analytics platform services. This role requires a balance of people leadership and technical leadership. You will be accountable for building a high performing team, developing engineering talent, guiding technical execution, and delivering high quality software that creates measurable value for Mastercard clients.

As an engineering manager, you will coach and mentor engineers across different experience levels, support hiring and performance management, and create an environment where engineers can do their best work. You will also remain technically engaged through architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, technical decision making, hands-on execution, and engineering delivery planning. You will partner closely with cross functional teams and teams across regions and time zones to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver cohesive, enterprise grade solutions.

Position Responsibilities

As a Manager, Software Engineering, you will:

Build, lead, and develop a high performing team of software engineers through hiring, onboarding, coaching, mentoring, performance management, career development, and succession planning.

Foster an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture centered on ownership, accountability, continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence.

Lead the delivery of complex software initiatives from planning through release, ensuring clear priorities, effective execution, and high quality outcomes.

Partner with Product and business stakeholders to translate business priorities into technical strategy, delivery plans, and execution milestones.

Provide technical leadership through architecture discussions, system design reviews, code reviews, technical decision making, implementation planning, and hands on execution when needed.

Guide the design and development of scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions using modern technologies, including Java, microservices, APIs, cloud platforms, and data technologies.

Establish and drive engineering best practices across the team, including software architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, performance, and operational readiness.

Review technical designs and implementation approaches to ensure alignment with engineering standards, long term maintainability, and platform architecture.

Identify and remove delivery blockers, manage risks and dependencies, and enable teams to execute effectively across competing priorities.

Partner closely with cross functional teams and teams across regions and time zones to align priorities, coordinate delivery, and ensure operational readiness.

Drive continuous improvement and modernization initiatives through adoption of cloud native technologies, automation, reusable components, engineering metrics, and data driven decision making.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a strong engineering leader who can develop people, guide technical execution, and deliver complex software outcomes through a high performing team. They bring credibility from a solid full stack engineering background and are comfortable operating across product, engineering, architecture, data, security, and operations stakeholders.

Ideal qualifications include:

8+ years of software engineering experience, including hands on experience designing and delivering production software in an agile environment.

3+ years of experience leading or managing software engineers, with a proven ability to build high performing teams through coaching, mentoring, performance management, career development, and talent planning.

Strong technical leadership and judgment, with experience guiding architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, technical decisions, and delivery of complex software initiatives.

Strong full stack engineering background with expertise in modern software development practices, including microservices, RESTful APIs, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, security, performance engineering, and operational readiness.

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure, including containerization, Kubernetes, and modern deployment and operational practices is a plus.

Experience with data intensive applications, analytics platforms, data pipelines, or large scale data processing; experience with Databricks, Spark, or PySpark is a plus.

Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across Product, Engineering, Data Engineering, QA, Architecture, Operations, and Security teams.

Experience leading and coordinating delivery across globally distributed teams and multiple time zones.

Strong problem solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity, balance technical and business priorities, drive continuous improvement, and improve team effectiveness, software quality, and delivery predictability.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. An advanced degree is a plus.
