Department Overview

Motorola Solution's Access Control Division is redefining how people experience the spaces they move through, starting at the front door. Our mission is to make physical environments smarter, safer, and more seamless through modern access control and automation technology that people rely on every day. We’re building an industry-leading platform on a meaningful scale, and we’re looking for engineers who want to shape the future of physical-meets-digital systems. This is a place where you’ll work on real-world problems that span distributed systems, hardware-adjacent software, security, and high-availability cloud services used by organizations around the world. You’ll join a highly collaborative, team-centric engineering culture that values strong analytical thinking, clean and pragmatic software design, and ownership from idea to production. We’re especially excited about engineers who are curious, adaptable, and comfortable working across multiple technologies, bringing both depth and range to how we build and evolve our platform.

Responsibilities

  • Development: Design and develop new features across Avigilon Access Control software and web applications, from concept through production.
  • Integrations & Ecosystem: Build and maintain third-party integrations, produce clear developer documentation, and support APIs and SDKs that power our broader ecosystem.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Develop and operate software for deploying, managing, and monitoring production systems and cloud infrastructure.
  • Quality & Craft: Write unit tests, automated UI tests, and execute test plans to ensure reliability, performance, and a high bar for quality
  • Operational Excellence: Take a production-first mindset, sharing responsibility for system reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Agile Collaboration: Work closely with leadership and peers to prioritize and deliver work in a fast-moving, iterative environment
  • What You Bring:
  • Mindset & Approach
  • A deep sense of curiosity and a drive to understand how systems work end-to-end
  • Strong ownership mentality -- you care about what happens after code ships.
  • Thoughtful technical judgement and a bias toward pragmatic, maintainable solutions.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative mindset; you enjoy building with others, not in isolation
  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related discipline
  • Technical Skills
  • 2+ years of experience building backend systems using Node.js API frameworks or Python
  • 2+ years of experience with JavaScript development (React preferred)
  • Strong command of object-oriented design, concurrency/threading concepts, resource management, and modern agile development practices
  • Experience with SQL data stores and designing relational data models
  • Knowledge of Linux fundamentals (bash/command-line), Docker, and monitoring tools like Datadog or CloudWatch
  • Highlights to Emphasize
  • Identity & Access Integrations: Highlight experience integrating Okta, Azure AD/Microsoft Graph, SAML, OAuth, or directory syncing.
  • Emphasize End-to-End AWS: Highlight experience with AWS Lambda, CloudFormation (IaC), EC2/VPCs, and database management (SQL/RDS + DynamoDB).
  • Demonstrate Full-Lifecycle Ownership: Highlight instances where you didn't just write code, but also handled unit testing, production monitoring, API documentation, and bug triage.
  • This position is based in Vancouver, BC and the candidate must reside in the Greater Vancouver area, as you will be required to go into the office on a hybrid work schedule.
  • Target Base Salary Range: $90,000 - 120,000 CAD
  • Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
